i was so in-love with my dv7. still am i guess. but now it seems like i have defective speakers so im gonna have to exchange or return this.
-
Explain the problem fully. When the sound muffles what programs are you running and what is the CPU usage? How does it muffle? Does the sound slow down or what?
I had this problem on a very slow problem when you would have programs running and the media play sound output would be muffled due to high CPU usage. -
low cpu usage. like one internet browser with say 2 or 3 tabs. and just playing music...via youtube or winamp.
sound plays great, but every 1 minute the sound gets muffled and crackled for about 2 seconds and it's fine again. it's like it gets staticy. -
OH! You might have to get it exchanged. It sounds like a loose wire. You know when you have a speaker plugged in halfway, but you can still hear the sound? It just emits a weird static sound as well.
-
yeah.
i should revert the system back to it's original state, right? use those recovery discs i made? -
You could try that, but I doubt that will remedy the problem.
-
nah. i meant for returning it. or i could just delete the stuff i installed.
-
are you sure, that the sound driver you have installed is the correct one? If you reformated to remove all the crap on the computer and just used the vista cd, then vista may have just installed a compatible generic driver and that could be causing your issue. I would revert to factory specs, then i would see if the problem persists. If it doesn't then you know what your problem is. -
okay. i'm listening to music thru the headphone jack and IT IS ALSO HAPPENING. so this looks like a software issue now again.
I'm using an " IDT High Definition Audio CODEC"
Driver Provider: IDT
Driver Date: 15/04/2008
Driver Version: 6.10.5929.0
But when I go to DRIVER DETAILS, I have this listed:
File Version: 6.0.6001.18000 (longhorn_rtm.080118-1840) -
Does the wifi card have wirelss A band active? If so try disabling 802.11a in device manager for the wireless. I have seen this issue happen in other laptops with broadcom abgn devices and disabling the 'a' band solved the sound stuttering problems.
-
how would i do that?
-
okay. forget that. i found out how to disable it.
it appears that i'm not alone. though it seems as it's more prevalent with dell laptops. anyways. i disabled my "802.11a band". hopefully, i won't EVER need that. it lessened the distortion a little bit. so furthermore, i also disabled the enhancements of the "speakers and dual headphones".
now it looks like it's "fixed" or at least less distinguishable.
it'd be pretty bad if you spent a good amount of money on a powerful laptop and u have such problem. especially if you got friends checking out ur laptop and they see/hear that it's got a problem. i wanna support hp here and show ppl that they're a reputable company. -
They are a reputable company. They stand by their products. Defects and problems are inevitable and can occur with anything. HP is always willing to repair or remedy the problem.

My DV9650US audio got glitchy during disk accesses after I upgraded to SP1, and so far, no new audio drivers have come out, and none of the other updates have fixed it.
dang. dv7. almost perfect. except for my speakers.
