    davin, Jonestown and those who called for winxp disc, have you received it?

    I got my v2000z today. I only have a dvd driver on it too. Before I call hp customer service to ask for the OS and drivers discs, I wonder if you guys have received them.

    I have two more questions:
    1. After a fresh system installation, is there anything we will lose? (e.g. fn keys)
    2. I want to upgrade my memory by purchasing a 1G DDR400. Will it be OK if the 256M DDR333 and the 1G DDR400 work together?

    I haven't received my cd's just yet. I've called HP up a few times to check the status, but they're telling me those items are backordered. Hoping they come through pretty quick, as I'd like to do a clean install. I have the windows XP disc for another machine, but would feel better having the HP disc in hand before I nuke the drive.

    I believe Davin may have received one of the cd's he requested. He's done a reinstall as well. There's a thread showing all the driver files he found in order to do the reinstall.

    For the RAM question, I immediately added a 512MB stick of Corsair PC3200 to the stock 256 PC2700 that the notebook came with. No problems running both sticks so far. It's really helped out the system responsiveness.

    I just got word this morning that I will be getting a WinXP disk. And I just got a shipping confirmation about 10 minutes ago.

    I don't know why I told "NO" the first time I called. Sending a polite email last week worked better for me than the phone call did.

    I did have to call them again today to request the drivers disk (it was not listed on the order confirmation for the OS disk), and spoke with a very nice guy who answered all my questions.

    I received the WinXP CD, but never received the drivers/applications CD. That's fine by me... better than the other way around. It came in a fedex letter envelope.

    No problems with the reinstall. FN keys work... at least the brightness ones do, I don't think I've tried any of the other ones. And the dedicated volume keys work fine.

    Just tell them that you don't have a burner and there wasn't an option to buy the media when you ordered your laptop. I had no problem at all... once I explained this to the rep he put the order in right away.
