from what i've read, there seems to be a consensus that hdx16 is ddr2, but some people seem to be saying hdx18 is gddr3? this doesn't seem to make financial sense from hp's side, but it would be a factor in deciding between the two if it were true. anyone have a definitive answer?

Yes both are DDR2...the review on this site mentions HDX 18t to have a GDDR3 GPU but...I was convinced by Xirurg later. I guess there is an error in the review over here..
