Does anybody know what is the difference.
HP USA support told me that dv8120us has bluetooth, while dv8220us has Lightscribe drive.
I wonder if the same is true for Canada models dv8120ca and dv8220ca??
If anybody on forum owns dv8120ca please could you please publish detailed specs here?
Interesting thing: Futureshop never sells dv8120ca and dv8220ca both at the same time. One week or so they sell one of these, next week the other and so on in cycles. And if you do not pay attention, the spec is identical on their web site!

I smelled a scam. So I googled cached data on both of these (you CANNOT FIND THE DATA ON THE "out-of-stock" ITEM!!! THANKS GOOGLE FOR CACHED PAGES!!!!!) and I found interesting thing:
dv8120ca is "out-of-stock" but I got info from cached Google pages and here is the spec:
$1400can ($100can less than current dv8220ca price)
It has AMD Turion 2.0 GHz WITH 1MB LEVEL 2 CACHE! (dv8220ca DOES NOT HAVE LEVEL2 CACHE AT ALL)
It has 54g 802.11b/g wireless WLAN support WITH 125HSM/SPEEDBOOSTER (dv8220ca does not have Speedbooster, just WLAN 802.11 a/b/g - WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN THIS "a" wireless support? 10cents maybe?)
Both dv8120ca and dv8220ca has Lightscribe! (corresponding USA versions totally different!)
dv8120ca has WinDVD software, dv8220ca does not
dv8120ca has Apple iTunes, dv8220ca does not
dv8120ca has Muvee AutoProducer DVD (APPARENTLY WITHOUT BURNING SUPPORT AS THE RETRIEVED SPECS SHOW). BASED ON SPECS dv8220ca HAS Muvee Autoproducer DVD WITH BURNING.
But here is the catch: DOES IT REALLY COME WITH BURNING?
AND ARE YOU BUYER AWARE OF THIS SLIGHT DIFFERENCE IN SPECS - SALESMAN WILL TELL YOU THESE ARE THE SAME LAPTOPS, ESSENTIALLY HE IS LYING)
Why is dv8220ca $100can more expensive?
Why dv8120ca and dv8220ca not sold at the same time?? MAYBE IN THAT CASE BUYER COULD COMPARE THE SPECS AT THE SAME TIME AND BASED ON THAT HE WOULD ALWAYS SELECT dv8120ca OF COURSE. Of course, who needs some Muvee Producer. I am shopping for notebook, not software!
BUYER BE AWARE!!!!!!!!!!!
WITHOUT DETAILED SPECS YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT ARE YOU BUYING!!!!!!!!!!
THIS MUST HAVE BEEN HP.CA POLICY TOO AS THEY DO NOT KEEP THE SPECS FOR "OUT-OF-STOCK" ITEM. IT IS OUT-OF-STOCK THIS WEEK, BUT NEXT WEEK IT IS NOT. -

only dv8120ca has L2 cache
-
It nowhere says "NO Level 2 Cache" The peculiarity of ML-32 is that it is clocked at 1.8ghz but has half the regular cache.
The CPU would not operate without level 2 cache, it sounds rediculous (the cache provides sufficient data from the RAM for the CPU to process. Due to its special/faster/integrated memory controller the Turion does not need 2mb level 2 cache like the Pentium M for example) -
vassil is correct. HP just didnt mention the L2 cahce. Most companies do not list the L2 cache but is assumed to be there depending on the cpu model. All Turions have either 512k or 1024k L2 cache depending on the model....

OK, but the whole point with dv8220ca was to somehow double-cross unaware buyer by offering it together with dv8120ca model but not at the same time so the buyer cannot compare hardware features, and essentially forcing him to buy Muvee AutoProducer DVD Edition with Burning software which is the whole point of this scam. You look briefly at the spec and see that both laptops have Muvee, but one is with burning. They didn't mention L2 cache, so one concludes they did not mention "Burning" as well so he buys thinking he got the same laptop, probably even little better (higher model number!), especially when the salesman told him that both models are the same. And when you look at Futureshop online specs you'll see that they are identical for both laptops!

I get your point. But I think the 8220ca was supposed to replace the 8120ca. They are basically the same, the 8220ca gets the Wireless a card which for the average user is useless. The dv8220 would be better if they had called it 8125 or something.
The specs are still on HP site, you just have to dig through a bit...

Why would somebody buy dv8220ca "replacement" model when by doing so he:
- pays $100 extra
- he looses WI-FI Speed booster
- he looses bluetooth
It does not make sense. The whole point of dv8220ca is to play the role of "improved" dv8120ca when in fact it is degradation of features. Bluetooth is around $50, speed booster probably $30-$40. Total loss for the buyer around $200 if he goes with the "newer" model
difference between dv8120ca and dv8220ca
