If you want it to work right, there shouldn't be any differences.

Actually, unfortunately, there IS a difference. I just replaced my original HP 12 cell battery with one that I bought off of eBay. The battery itself works as well as my original, and the seller was very responsive and very nice, HOWEVER the problem is that the replacement battery does not fit well into the slot --- and therefore my latch doesn't hold it in properly, so that every time I move or shift my laptop, even a small amount, the battery loses the connection and shuts off the computer. Frequently! Like every few minutes!!!! Very annoying, and just not acceptable. I've even tried taping it in place, which helps a little --- but not enough. So, instead of a bargain at $64 dollars (including shipping) I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and go back to HP + pay $164 (including tax).
    GRRRRRRR!!!!

PS I realize that the HP model may not be the same, or the battery either, for that matter, but the point is, you have to think about how the battery fits into your laptop in addition to how the battery itself functions.

on the other paw, I have an aftermarket 12 cell and it fits my hp G70 perfectly, no loose connections, no shutdowns.

Would you mind sharing where you got your replacement battery, what brand it is, and how much you saved from the HP retail price?
