Each time when I start upmy notebook I get a message about connecting to TPM.

It seems that all programs are put on hold untill TPM is connected.

First I have no idea what TPM is and second would like to disable or switch it off.

Anyone out there that can tell me how to do this?

You won't be able to utilise the HP ProtectTools security features such as Smartcard authentication, hard disk encryption and fingerprint reader. However, you can still use Vista's BitLocker.

when your laptop boots up you should press f10 at the beginning. ( the actual key for entering bios differs from manufacturer to manufacturer, sometimes it´s f2, f10, f12.....)

have a close look at the startup screen, it´s written there which key let´s you "enter setup"
