I've been looking into buying a laptop. I will be using it mainly to do some coding. But also it will be used for web surfing, photoshop, illustrator, etc. After doing some research & looking around at various models i'm interested in hp's zt3000.

My question is about the display. The 3 options are:

    *WXGA Widescreen (1280x800)
    *WVA WSXGA+ (1680x1050) + $50
    *WVA WUXGA (1920x1200) +150

I haven't seen any floor models anywhere w/ anything other than the WXGA afaict. I'd be interested in getting either the WSXGA or the WUXGA, but i've seen a couple of complaints about font sizes being hard to read. I've also seen people stating that this wasn't a problem. I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on this issue.

    Thanks!

As far as font size and such if you have access to a nice 17" monitor try setting them to 1680x1024 and the 1920 x 1440 and see how you like that, obviously you wont have the full height, but the width should be close to the same.

Quikster has good advice--screen resolution preference varies from person to person.

I have a wxga (1280 x 800) resolution screen, and now that I've used it for awhile, I'm glad I didn't spend the extra money to get a higher resolution. I'm very happy with my notebook.

My husband has a laptop with wuxga (1920 x 1200) and he absolutely loves it. I couldn't stand it--everything is so tiny on it! But, he can fit quite a bit more on his screen than I can.

If the fonts are too small, use Large Fonts or Extra Large Fonts (Display Properties | Appearance tab). I use normal fonts on my 1680x1050 15.4" display. Microsoft ClearType font antialiasing works VERY well on the high-pixel-density displays. Definitely spend the $50, maybe spend the $150 for 1920x1200 (hey, that's HDTV res, might be useful some day).

Changing the font size is an option...but I'm still glad I didn't spend the extra money for the higher resolution. Personally I wouldn't get anything out if it, and even with larger fonts, the icons are too small!

This is very much a personal choice, and it would be nice if there was a brick and mortar store one could go to where they could check out the various resolutions!
