I just bought a new dm4 and the on-screen controls for volume and brightness are not working. The fn key does not seem to respond when pressed in combination with the f-keys for volume or brightness. Anyone know how to get them working?

Too use the brightness, volume, and media keys you don't have to press fn key. The only times you have to use fn key is if you need to use the F1-F12 keys for example F5 is for refresh press fn+F5.
If you rather press fn keys for the media and F1-F12 without the fn, you'll have to change it in the bios.
    Hope this helps.

Hmm, weird, it does not do that. What would be the name of the HP software that controls the OSD so that I may reinstall it?

Thanks again for your help! :)

    It should be this one:
    ยป HP On-Screen Display Utility
    2011-05-02 , Version:1.10, 1.44M
This package provides the HP On-Screen Display Utility for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The HP On-Screen Display Utility enables the pop-up graphic displays that are shown on ...

But I would suggest going to HP site and putting your model number in there. I just selected the dm4-2000 CTO model. Usually it's the same.
