http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834147477
It cost $1199 and looks good for internet, email, outlook etc., My questions, is this laptop okay for carrying around in backback? How is the built quality etc., any other information? any alternatives ?

I'm not sure if this model features the touchscreen or not. If you are considering this model, make sure that it has a touchscreen; if not, there are other tx1000 series models that have touchscreens.
The reason I'm asking whether this has a touchcreen or not is because the tx1000 series (including the tx1210us) is really a convertable tablet PC. That means the screen can swivel and fold onto the keyboard, converting from a notebook to a tablet PC.
For more infromation on the tx1000 series, here are some reviews of various tx1000 series models:

$1199 sounds like a good price; just make sure it has the touchscreen. -
The tx1210ca doesn't have a touchscreen. I ordered one a while back for $1200 Canadian at Bestbuy and returned it shortly afterwards for a touchscreen model.

Be sure to test the touchscreen model first before buying it. I have a touchscreen model (tx1120us) and I am not very fond of it for two reasons. One is the touchscreen produces a grainy look over the screen and makes it look "dirty". Secondly, it's difficult to write on the touchscreen because you have to press hard all the time and it makes my hand sore.
Once again, be sure you test drive it before you buy it at retailers like Best Buy, Circuit City or CompUSA.

Did you go to bed before 1 AM yesterday?
HP home got it for $800 with a coupon code but it was over this morning.
Touchscreen are a little grainy.
Palm rest runs warm. -
Both models have their own ups and downs, the touchscreen obviously you can write on, use your finger as a mouse, etc. Downside is that its a passive not active digitizer so its not as accurate and not really that great for writing but you can use your finger and not just the stylus. It also has a grainy screen compared to the nontouchscreen models.

i am not looking for touchscreen laptop, i just want 12" thin laptop for good computing.

It's an excellent notebook. I highly recommend it. It small enough to fit in any backpack. The quality seems pretty good but the black surface on the lid (back of screen) is very easy to scratch. Once I turned the notebook upside down on a wooden table (the black surface resting on the table) to look at the serial number at the underside of laptop, and then turn it back, I noticed an inch long scratch on the shiny black surface of the lid. I think dust scratch it because I could not find anything else to cause a scratch. I think it can easily happen to any notebooks.

max. I received mine but it was defective, I am waiting on my replacement , I had more trouble with my vendor than hp,not that they werent trying to help but they were SLOW. took a week before I got an RMA to turn it in, credited my account and I ordered it again wednsday.....should be in soon. I shouldve sent it to hp, the repair center is close it wouldve been fixed and back within 3 days.
Anyway, I used it some before I turned it in. I was very impressed with it. I am looking forward to getting the replacement. I too wasnt looking for a touchscreen, just a small light laptop. It seemed pretty zippy, I didnt play any games on it, I was about to install sims2. what I think was wrong with it is it appeard it turned the lcd off, like the lid was closed, I couldnt get anything to display on an external monitor either. I removed the ram let it power on to give me the no memory beep, put the memory back in and it would work for a while....so it couldve been memory to i suppose. -
That model does not have a touchscreen -
I have what is equivilent to a tx1220us. I guess my biggest disappointment has been with the touchscreen. I used to work on a ruggedized hp business tablet PC and it must have had an active digitizer touch screen because it replicated my hand writing flawlessly. This one reminds me of using my PDA. On the other hand I would not own one of these without a touchscreen because making it convert to a tablet would be pointless.
Other than that this thing is completely awesome. I've never seen a laptop perform as well as this one does. First thing we did was strip off Norton for an immediate speed increase.
For $900 I can't complain.
do any one have HP Pavilion tx1210us ?
