hey,
i recently got my v2570. i moved from a m40sf3. there are several things which really annoys me about this laptop and i was wondering if there is any kind of programs i can download to fix this.
on my sf3 there were serperate power profiles (configfree) and on the compaq there isnt. also when i changed the brightness of my m40, there would be like a little picture or soemthing telling me where i am and how much more i can go up or down in brightness. also, when listening to music on my m40, there was aphysical knob to change volume. on the compaq theres 2 buttons, yet no animation or something telling how much more or little u can turn the volume up or down by. and lastly, the thing which annoys me the most, the battery meter. it gives u % left, but not an estimated time? thats pretty stupid if u ask me.
anyways does anyone know of any compaq or 3rd party applications that can fill the void im feeling lol. or atleast a programt hat tells me estimated time left on battery? (this is a really rediciulous thig to leave out)
TIA
EDIT: also is tehre need for a clean install of xp onto this notebook? the reason i ask is because it seems like tehres no compaq software at all on this thing (meaning compact or hp).

Try installing either Logitech or MS keyboard software. These usually should enable the volume OSD's. I use this logitech driver on my R3000 and it works pretty well. Although I havent been able to find any keyboard software which will display the screen brightness.
HP never used power management on any of their laptops, so I dont know if there are any 3rd party tools. You could use RM Clock to set custom voltages which should extend your battery life.
It is not really necessary to re-install Windows. Some of the software tends to slow down the system, but if you are happy with the performance of the laptop, then there is no need to worry about them. -
I use Notebook Hardware Control. This displays the amount of time that my battery has left. It is very usefull.

and maybe its because of the proc, but i cant even undervolt with NHC.
hmm ill give this a try. also does RM clock work with turion processers? like mentioned above, NHC doesnt work and im assuming its because of this -
Oh I see. You have a Turion.
No wonder Notebook Hardware control doesn't work. It is not supported. lol
I am not sure if RM clock supports Turion processors but it is worth the try.

RM Clock will definately work. It was called 'AMD64 Clock' before ever being called as RM.
Many people have undervolted with RM on these forums. Check this thread. Although it is a bit old(the steps are for an older version of RM). You can probably gain some ideas on the undervolting potential of the cpu.
does compaq or 3rd party offer this software...
