    doesnt read cds/dvds

    hi there im still having this problem with my compaq 1510 laptop when i load a cd or dvd in the drive it does nothing every thing else works fine it just doesnt read media can anyone help with this proble?

    well if u have tried everything like reinstalling vista or xp then your drive is probably broken and needs to be replaced.

    Most likely a faulty drive and needs to be replaced.

    so the drive u had before had the same problem as the new one?

    could be the connector on the motherboard that is the issue.

    do u have a bootable CD like your windows disc? if so put that in the drive and restart, set your BIOS to boot first from CD if it isnt already and see if it boots from it and reads the disc fine. if it does then it is a windows issue which u cud resolve by removing then installing the drivers related to it.

    if it doesnt boot then it is the motherboard connector. i take it the drive does power up?
