waiting for rebates is so frustrating, as well as bad customer service. I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. I've had pretty good experience with Dell as far as getting support and being able to return a notebook that had issues.
-
Wow - have many other pple faced this problem? im considering a v2000z from hpshopping - do the rebates really never come?
how many pple have had this issue? Is support really that bad?? Maybe cuz im indian i'll be able to kiss some ass and sweet talk them to helping me!!! -
Hahah, yeah I'm Indian too. My dad had to talk to customer support about his Microsoft wireless router and the tech guy was Indian. He and my dad first talked about the issue with the router and then for half an hour just talked really informally like friends about India and all that. Really funny.
I've never heard this rebate type of problem with HP/Compaq before. I wouldn't let it scare you off Radha. Every company has its share of unhappy customers with some bad experiences. Sounds like a case of bad luck to me. I think you should be fine. -
ok rahul awsome - im stickin with hp then!
Just gota sweet talk to the guys in hindi- no biggie !!! -
Dang, I forgot how to speak Hindi when I came from Saudi Arabia to Canada, I learned English and forgot my native tongue.
I can understand a good bunch of Hindi, but can't speak it or write it. My younger brother doesn't know any Hindi at all. I still think I'd get some sympathy points though. A proctor for my Calculus test I took two weeks ago was Indian, and she wished me good luck and smiled at me of all the other students there. -
I've been getting some HP tech support from India lately and found the experience was just like Stateside tech support; some people were excellent, some much less so. I'm convinced this is the case with most companies, regardless of what nationality provides the support. Too bad people assign characteristics to entire populations based on individual experiences.

Rahul - ya i got lucky - for being born and raised in michigan i somehow managed learn/speak guju and some hindi - wow saudi then canada now houston !!! u've really been around boy!

I have had my fair share of HP tech problems, but they always end up with a solution. You can start by talking to a supervisor, that helps sometimes. As far as them not helping you with the burner, at least when you had a drive go out, they didn't lose your laptop. I had that happen, and their solution was, "well just pick a new one" which was nice and all, but there was a lot of irreplaceable data on that hard drive. Just talk to them, and if it really doesn't go anywhere, there is a way to get to more advanced support, which is really effective. Unfortunately, I don't remember how to do that right now. But, if I ever have to call about my computer, I have specific phone numbers to call for certain people, it works well.

Well, I was born in New Delhi, India. My dad was working in Saudi Arabia at the time in a city called Dammam for a huge oil company. My mom and me stayed in New Delhi with our relatives for two weeks and went back to Dammam to join my dad. I lived there until I was 4. We then went to live in Toronto, Canada from age 4 until 7. The weather of course was a huge shock to me. In Saudi Arabia, we consider it "cold" if the temperature ever goes below 90 degrees Farenheit.
And now I saw snow everywhere instead of sand, snowball fights were a blast!
We moved back to Saudi Arabia to the capital city of Riyadh because the pay there is very, very, enticing. They pay you crazy amount of money there. My dad's employer, King Faisal Specialist Hospital, gave us a free, fully furnished, all bills paid apartment with free health care of course and all espenses paid vacations!! While we lived in Riyadh, we traveled to London, Paris, Tokyo, India and New York. We had the good life in Riyadh!
My dad finally decided to leave Riyadh and come to America due to the religious persecution they have in Saudi Arabia, plus they don't let women drive.
However, the best years of my entire life were spent there. Even today, 8 years later from which I had to move from there, I miss it very, very much and would love to go back and see my old school and stuff. I would do anything to go into a time machine and relive the few years I spent in Riyadh.
I lived there from 7 until I turned 10 and then we came to Houston, Texas where I've been living ever since, now I'm 18 and a student at University of Houston. And since we came to Houston, we've had to move three different times as well! Moving around has been really painful for me, just when I settle down and make friends, we have to move and it really stinks.
I think we'll be sticking to Houston from now on, no more moving around. -
wow! Riyadh huh? never woulda imagined. paid vacations, free health care, and a place to live - sounds bad ass!
Thats good tho now that you and your family have settled in houston - what are you majoring in at UofH? Im in my last year of my bachelors in Fine Arts and Graphic Design.
Atleast the weather in Houston matches Riyadhs!!
(its frikin freezin here in mich! -
Well, I'm just a first semester freshman. I came here to major in Computer Engineering, but after taking Calculus and Chemistry and struggling like mad in them, I've realized that engineering is not my thing at all. I've changed my major to undecided and will decide on one before the end of my spring semester. I'm still thinking about computers however.

I have had good support from HP and I had no problem or delay in getting my rebate paid.
I wish I could say the same for Dell. They totally f***ed up my order, sent my laptop to another Dell customer in Illinois with my same name (not too common a name, either), talked him into buying it, and then proceeded to bill me for 3 months for the machine I never got. Supervisor promised to get me a good discount on a new machine for my inconvenience, then he never returned calls. Easily 30 calls to them to people who all dropped it, until finally one cust. svc. rep in Idaho credited the account. That's actually what pushed me to HP to begin with, and I've been very satisfied.
Everyone I know who's recently bought a Dell machine (especially desktops) curses them. Their hard drives fall like flies. Their service has gone to hell in the last few years.
"Your mileage may vary". I'm sure HP has it's share of screw-ups, and I'm sure Dell has satisified customers who love them. I just know I'll never be one of them.
don't do it!!! no tech support/didn't pay rebate
