Hi guys,
I am having a very bad experience with hp pavilion dv6000 notebook...I have send the notebook 3 times to the hp service center and still has not got it in the good working condition...this time my laptop is with HP since last 20 days and i have not got it back yet..I am not at all satisfied with the support they've provided to me.. and I know my 3 other friends who are having the same issues with the dv6000.. my conf is AMD core duo, 1GB RAM, 80GB Hard Disk and running windows vista which itself sucks...so my advice would be never go for hp pavilion dv6000....

What were the problems you had with it?
-
I think this is the wrong forum for this thread.
If everyone complained about the problems with their laptops HERE, then it's suddenly a lot harder to convince prospective buyers of a laptop to buy. No brand is going to ever be COMPLETELY problem free.
Methinks this should be moved to the HP forum or deleted. -
While I'm not sure whether this kind of thread is appropriate to NBR, it's certainly not at home in the WNSIB forum. Therefore, I have moved it to the HP forum for now. Generally, we don't allow general bashing of brands based on a "bad experience." If you can elaborate on what the problem is/was and what steps HP took/did not take to correct the problem, the thread would have purpose.
-
Uninstall the bloatware (especially Symantec/Norton stuff which seems to hog all resources), and uncheck certain unnecessary services from startup, and it is very speedy.
Mine currently uses a bitmore than 512MB, with the rest available for applications. -
Nice thread here...What are the problems with your dv6000z? It's a great machine and I have had it and never had a problem with it.
-
I'm running vista home premium with 1GB on my 6000z, with 50% ram free. It's smooth. Like others said, remove bloatware and other system mem hogs.
-
sorry to hear you had a bad experience. my hp should be here Saturday and i hope i have better one than you did.
-
The price on the x000 series has come way down, and they're having specials. Still, the newer line (x500) series give you the faster processor and updated graphics. The DV6000T was at the top of the charts for a long time before the newer Dells came out.
-
DV6000t running strong here for about 9 months here with not a single crash...
-
Same here, same as zcott that is. DV6000T going strong for 11.75 months (bought it August 31 '06) and its been great. The only problem I've had are my fault, unstable graphics driver caused BSODs and I have a virus (bit torrent, not sure if its one word or two, has been good to me until now.....
)
-
You would think they would just give you a new one. Keep a customer happy. Hell, it's not like they don't have any in stock. Gees!
-
The only regret I have about buying the dvd6000z is that it didn't offer a better video card, and at the moment I need a much better one that what was available. Other than that, I've been very happy with my laptop!
-
I bought mine back in February and the hardware has worked perfectly. I had the webcam issue, but that was resolved with an updated driver from HP and all is good. -
I bought one this week. Still working great!
-
The 6000t is a great machine honestly. I hate to see mine go
but I just needed something a bit more portable since im always on the go.
-
AKAJohnDoe Mime with Tourette's
My dv6000t is definitely more portable, faster, and more reliable than the Dell 5100 it replaced.
-
I can't wait until Moday!
-
Well mine is in the shop for the 2nd time and I've had it for 11 Months. First time the WiFi stopped working and they had to change a part on the main board. This time around my speakers and mic stopped working. I still think its a great system though and i hope this is the last repair.
-
Ever since I got my two problems solved (with a replacement and an adapter), I have had very few problems with my DV6000Z. I guess you can put me in the "Happy Camper" crowd. But...
1) Replacement has a soft power button (non-issue really, but you have to really push it to work- feels like how it would feel if you spilled soda in it).
2) It is very non-Vista-OS unfriendly. I've had no luck getting any Linux distros to work, one of which uses a proprietary Linux setup is Acronis TrueImage, which relies on it to restore backups. Also, new BIOS updates break support for DirectPlay (if you choose to downgrade to XP).
3) Very warm, whether it's idle or under load. I suppose what is a negative now in summer will be a positive when things get cold here (Michigan) in a few months.
4) Webcam isn't consistent in FPS. At one moment, it seems like it's recording nice and smooth. Then the next, it drops to like 5 FPS.
5) Mic is poor quality. Not only does it record periodic buzzing/clicking noises, but it's recording is very very quiet unless your face is right up next to the mic.
But for the price (I think I paid around $500 for it after rebates), I think it was worth it. -

I got mine yesterday, It's a refurb from Ubid. I had 2gb of Kingston already waiting & just by going from 64-128 in the video memory bios the rating went from 2.8-3 (3D graphics being 3.0) Mine has an MK36 single core and my plan was to get a TL-60 when the prices come down but the processor is 4.2! and the system runs fine.
I am in the process of removing the last of the bloatware but even with it the machine runs great! (is pretty to boot!)
That's the good, here is the bad. It has a few dead pixels which I can live with except that "Tech support" has really P'D me off.
The system was billed as having internal Bluetooth (and the label on the box says so) but they have given me the runaround, first yesterday they made me call Ubid, even though it came in a sealed H.P. box & I knew Ubid would send me back to them. I was on the phone for 4+ hours over the last two days. Also they keep making me repeat the SN/Product # and have transferred me around repeatedly to the "right"(wrong) person.
Finally I asked for the corp# to call Monday & I called just to see and it was freaking sales!
1) anyone know how to contact someone in the U.S. that can help? & (2) do you guys know if the HDD is proprietary? I got an 80gb and its just too small, I want to buy a bigger drive.
Overall I really am happy with the machine and like it alot. I just wish it had the bluetooth I paid for and that HP reps were less like the money to exchange the BT/no BT cards came from their pocket.
Thanks! -

I had to send my DV8310US to HP 9 times for repair for mainly all parts of the laptop failing. The DV8000 series had allot of issues i just got a replacement DV9500t this month from them.

Uh oh, I wish I had done more research earlier. My DV6000z is about to arrive day after tomorrow and I stumbled upon this scary thread in HP Support Forums
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1104931
Has anyone else on this forum had problems with their dv6000s? According to the posts on HP's forums, the problems start surfacing after 6-8 months of use. Any advice on what I should do now? -

Like AKAJohnDoe said, I wouldn't be too concerned.
Remember that you're mostly seeing posts from people with problems. The ones with good working machines rarely post about how great things are going. There are plenty of users with no problems at all (like myself) who are very happy with their dv6000 series laptops.
I've used Dells at work, and played around with numerous other brands, and in my opinion HP makes the best laptop for the money. Technical specs don't tell the whole story either - I much prefer the touchpad, keyboard, and screen of the HP models over many others.
All companies have hardware problems or failures...just buy the model you like and be happy. -

Don't buy the dv6000z. Don't buy a laptop. Don't buy anything period. I bet you that it's going to fail. Maybe not today, not tomorrow, but 5, 10, 100 years down the road, you're going to wake up, and it's not going to work (as well). Save your money and don't buy all this crap that companies make. IT WILL BREAK!!!

Alas, much of this technological crap appears to be far more durable than our own frail human bodies and much of it will linger on, perhaps in the bottom of landfills, long after we have gone to dust.

Hm, this may sound dumb, but I don't really know which HP Pavillion notebook I've got. I ordered a dv6550eb (Core 2 Duo T7300 2GHz, 160 Gb, 2048 Mb DDR2, nVidia GeForce 8400M, 15.4 inch glossy, HDMI connector) so I thought I'd have a dv6500 notebook. But on the screen lid it says HP Pavillion dv6000.
Anyway, my major problem with it is the noise it makes. It seems like the fans have 3 operating stands, going from almost inaudible to incredibly loud. And almost all the time they are in the loudest stand, even when I'm just surfing or browsing. I'm used to some noise, but it's even audible through my music. Also, on the fastest/loudest stand there is a noticable vibration in the keyboard. It's not as if it's actually moving, but you really notice some sort of vibration in your fingertips. It's even worse on the right side of the touchpad.
Is this normal for this notebook? Am I just overreacting or is it possible there's a problem with my notebook? I read in the NBR review that there was a decent amount of noise coming from the fans, but I never expected it to be this loud... -
If you want to confirm your hardware, get a copy of CPUZ which will show the processor, its speed, memory config, motherboard model, etc. That will help you to confirm you got what you ordered. Just unzip the program into a folder and double-click it to run it (no installation or setup needed).
My dv6265ca came with f.15 BIOS which worked great. Then they released f.16 which worked essentially the same except my Windows video performance rating dropped by about 25% or more, so I went back to f.15 and I'm a happy camper. NOTE - your model likely uses a different BIOS numbering scheme, so make sure you get the right one. Post in the forums again when you know what BIOS you have and which one works best for you.
As for noise and vibration, yes it's normal too. But the fan shouldn't be running fast unless the processor is heavily used, which is normal the first few days after you get the laptop. Vista does a lot of indexing and defragging in the background for a while until it gets everything well organized. Once it finishes tidying up, the laptop feels faster and fan noise should drop off a bit.
Have fun with the new toy.
-
Thanks a lot for the information. I've been using the notebook for about 5 days now, and it seems the noise only got worse, but I'll give it a few more days.
Also, I had my keyboard changed from an Azerty to a Qwerty (after using it for 4 days; almost all notebooks here in Belgium are delivered with an Azerty), and I think the vibration only occured after I changed the keyboard. It also seems as if the fan noise got worse since I got it back, so I'm wondering if I either didn't notice the noise/vibration before turning it in or if it's possible that the guys at the hardware store did something wrong while changing my keyboard. Before that the fan was loud, but not so that it bothered me while using headphones or listening to music through seperate speakers. There also seems to be a slight whirring noise now besides to fan noise..
I used the CPUZ and this is my BIOS version:
Brand: HP
Version: F.09
Date: 06/11/2007
I'll try updating my BIOS and see what it gives. I'd hate to be stuck with this noise/vibration stuff, because besides this it's a great notebook imo. -

I like that term Pretraumatic stress disorder. I finally got the bluetooth adapter from H.P. my system does not see the bluetooth, (802.11 B/G nic works fine) I d/l the latest bios hoping that was the problem, neither the old one nor the new one have much of anything in them let alone bleutooth configuration.
I prefer not to call H.P again if I can avoid it, can anyone think of why the system does not see it? I tried installing the latest bluetooth/nic driver & it says no bluetooth detected & closes the installer.
By the way, after a week with the machine I am impressed with the performance I am getting out of it.
Thanks -

I bought one about 8 months ago. it started shutting off by itself, then the display went out, so I had to send it in, I spent one hour and 20 min on the phone with tech who didnt know English and I had to go through all these troubleshooting steps to make sure it didnt work (Im a computer tech and knew nothing was we were doing was going to fix it) but I had to talk to this guy and try to understand what he was saying.
I got it back about a week later; the repair order said it was a motherboard failure (I know it wasnt)
The display went out 4 days later again; I had to go through the exact same steps as above again, only it took three hours and two different days on the phone because they said they had no record of me sending it in the first time and my serial number for my notebook belonged to some girl in Switzerland (you got to laugh at that one)
I got my notebook back yesterday, my display works fine, but (2) (w) (s) and (x) buttons on my keyboard dont work HAHAHAH. I called them 10 min after I took it out of the box and they wanted me to uninstall the keyboard drivers, it did nothing, then she wanted me to try to reset the bios, at this point I told her I wanted my money back for the piece of junk, now Im waiting for a call back from a case manager I cant wait to hear what hes going to say. DONT BUY THIS PILE OF JUNK!!!!!! -

Wow. A thread started by a first-poster who never returned, resurrected by a dual-poster whose sole contribution is two negative posts on the same topic. Impressive. Suppose they both share the same IP address?
-
LOL
So because YOU had a bad one, or possibly one that you screwed up, WE shouldn't buy it? -
Don't wait for the case manager to call you. You better check with them everyday and convince them to connect you to a case manager. -
-
shutting down for no reason - i had the same problem. I ran a system analysis and found that I needed a few patchs for conflicts with other software, one of which was Skype. After I downloaded the patches I had no further problems.

Why is this thread still alive? It should be closed.

No it should not be! You should really not buy DV6000. My sister and cousin boutgh model dv6011ea at the same time, about a year ago. First there was a problem with the wi-fi card which just vanished. You couldn't see it in control manager and it couldn't be installed again. It happend on both notebooks. They just bought wi-fi usb keys to fix the problem. But now there is one more bigger problem and again on both computers. The display doesn't work anymore. It is just black! So I searched a little and found out that a lot of people is having problems with this model and also HP admits that this series has hardware issues. Look at:

It is a common tactic of Spammers and the disgruntled to post into old threads.
This thread had been dead prior to your awakening it, mumbo. -
I agree with this thread some of my cousin and friends have dv6000 with 1gb ram and AMD processors and are catching hell, seems like most of them are overheating for some strange reason and take long to start up or comp freezes when logging into vista
-
AKAJohnDoe Mime with Tourette's
Actually, I do not believe that it is possible to buy a dv6000 anymore is it? I mean, it is not a current model, right?
-
