Hey folks,
So when my hard drive died on my DV2404ca laptop (22 days after warranty finished) I bought a new a new Western Digital SATA (since they lied to me and told I already had one but found out it was a Fujitsu)...
Anyways I do not have reccovery discs so I installed my XP Pro but now I am looking for drivers. I currently cant even get the internet to work...
So since I am not the best at this I was looking for some help. I found this on the HP site...is this all I need?

I also found this forum link which explains I need drivers for 2000z so I guess I just need some link help. If anyone can provide links to the right place I would appreciate it.

HP's driver page for the dv2404ca:

You can get Nvidia drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com. -
Okay I have all the necessary HP drivers on my key but I am not sure what NVIDIA drivers to get from the website you suggested.
Thanks for the help. -

Here is the one you want. The steps to installing are:
- download driver and modified INF
- extract driver to folder on desktop, place modified INF in the extracted folder and overwrite the current one
- Right-click Computer > Properties > Device Manager > Display Adapters
- Right-click the display adapter (graphics card), select uninstall
- Restart the computer
- Install the new driver by heading into the extracted folder, opening setup.exe
- Restart the computer
Done! -
It looks like XP64 is not the right one, I guess I need the XP32?
I still have about 9 devices with questions marks:
Audio Device on High Definiton Audio Bus
Base System Device (X3)
Coprocessor
Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus
Other PCI Bridge Device
SM Bus Controller
Video Controller (I assume thihs is resolved by the Nvidia driver) -
Ok found XP 32bit and it seems to have worked. It says it did not pass the Logo test but it still worked...as far as I can tell. Also found somemore drivers from the DV2000z.
I did not update the HP BIO's as my friend said might not be neccesary.
Down to 4 devices with questions marks:
Coprocessor
Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus
Other PCI Bridge Device
SM Bus Controller -
Still having trouble, anybody have any ideas where to start? I did some google searches but not much on my model. I did find some on dv2000z but most talk about Intel solution but I am running AMD...
-
Its retarded that HP's webpage doesn't even have the drivers for all the devices in the model... you might have to look at the manual, find the manufacturers for the unidentified devices, and go to the manufacturer websites to retrieve the drivers yourself. Alternatively, you can look at other similar Intel-based HP models that have the same hardware and use drivers from those pages.

I am thinking the coprocessor is probably the most important so I have spent most of my time with that one. Most say it has something to do with the chipset but not sure what they are referring to and how I can fix it.
I am thinking I can start downloading the various drivers from the hp website until one solves my problems and then reformat and start again and only use the ones that worked. It sounds like an arsebackwards way of doing it but only thing I can think of... -
Okay I downloaded a Nvidia driver for another 2000 series HP notebook and it has resolved everything except the SM Bus controller.
When i downloaded the driver it asked if I wanted a firewall installed, not being sure I said yes. Was that correct? -
Drivers don't have anything to do with firewalls, unless you perhaps have one installed and you had to bypass it in order to download the driver.
-
When I get home I'll check to see exactly what I downloaded.
It is funny because I now get a little popup everytime something wants to load on my computer. The firewall is asking for permission. Feels like I have Vista again.
downgrading DV2404ca to XP . help please.
