Do you have an Accidental Damage Protection plan along with your warranty? If u have an ADP, go ahead and get it replaced for a new laptop absolutely free of cost. Please let me know. And PM me your laptop serial no. and product no. if possible. Let me see if I can set up a free replacement for you.

If your keypad lights are on and u get black screen with no cursor and also not able to boot to BIOS, even then you are eligible for a free replacement under ONE TIME SERVICE ENHANCEMENT POLICY.

Depending on when you got it HP may not need the receipt. The Serial Number has a date code on it of when it was manufactured. So if it was built within a year they shouldn't need the receipt.

Plus, do not tell them you dropped it...

Sounds maybe like its trying to boot from a bad hard drive from the drop, so then the BIOS is trying to boot from the CD thats empty. Sounds like the hard drive might have broken to me...just a guess.
Need to run a hard drive diagnostics off a CD (download with another computer) and run that in the laptop, might have to go in to BIOS to make it boot from the CD/DVD first....if it doesn't already boot.
