then it sure won't. "User error" is NEVER covered under a std. warranty.

the best you can do is try calling in about it...they might not ask what the cause was, but i doubt it.

at the very least, you might be able to pay to get it repaired.

It probably wouldn't apply to that accident because the accident happended before you got the accident protection.

They use special carbon-dating methods to figure out how old the crack is. Also, they monitor internet forums very carefully for threads like this one. :D

they could if i buy the upgrade and inmediately tell them that i dropped it and had a crack but if i buy it now and wait 1 month or something, im shure they wont find out, and also i bough it 2 or 3 weeks ago so its normal to buy the upgrade.

Buy the accidental warranty, wait a couple of months, then drop your laptop to the floor one more time to cause more damage. Then call HP.

Well, if Rybo is thinking what I'm thinking, scamming any company like that is wrong.

I'm not gonna report anything, but I still think if you damage your computer, you need to fess up and just pay for the repairs and not try and get a warranty after the damage had already been done.

    Then again, that’s my view.

    Hey Jon-Michael,
I want to see what'll you do when your laptop stops working and HP tries to get out of fixing it by using some technicality like they have done with a lot of people in this forum.
I guess it's ok for them to do it but no for us.

Never had a single problem with HP's technical support, actually. Granted, I pay for the full 3 year accidental protection warranty for each of my notebooks, so maybe that gets me better service. Even when I did dropped my dv1000. The accidental protection warranty (which I had bought 1.5 years prior to the drop, mind you) took care of it.

And, it's not a technically HP is trying to use, in this case anyways. People just don't want to pay money for the warranty, then try to skip around the service to get it fixed, without owning up to their mistakes.

Simple as that, for this case, anyways.

    :)

Then again, like I said, that’s my view. I don’t believe in making a mistake, then trying to cover it up and fix it without paying my share in the problem.

    *shrugs*

Its true, either way I will pay for the repair and get the wrranty upgrade. I didnt buy it because i dont live in the UsA and the warranty doesnt applies to me so thats why i didnt buy it.

yea but if you pay for the repair via an upgrade, you're getting more than you should. plus, if you damage it again (as per your earlier post) than that is intentional damage and they'll just cancel your warranty outright.

If you're going to upgrade to the accidental warranty coverage and then send it in for repair then just do it but don't throw it in the floor again to try and do more damage after upgrading. They have no way of knowing when the damage occurred. Even if you had bought the accidental coverage at the time of purchase instead of buying it now you probably would of still dropped the laptop off your bed so ither way your paying the same amount for the coverage.

Like I said, I want to see if you'll have the same view after going through what a lot of people in here have gone through. I'm glad to say that I haven't had any bad experiences with HP as of today but one day I might. I also buy the accidental warranty but only for 2 years because in 3 years my laptop, as well as everybody elses, will be worthless (or at least for me).
But anyways, I don't think people in here care about your views or mine so ....

Hey jlorenzw, I hope you find a solution for your dilemma. Keep my idea on mind. :)

I will, lol. When im able to send my laptop to the USA ill talk to hp support and ask them about it because if i only have to pay for the repair something like 50dolars i would pay it an get the warranty too if they decide not to include it on the upgrade, i just dont want to wait till its reasonable to tell them i dropped my laptop.

    Exactly what I'm thinking...

    ;)

Anyways, let's just agree to disagree.

    :p

Anyways, good luck on your dv2000, jlorenzw. Hopefully it gets back to its pre-cracked glory soon.

    ;)
