I'm looking to dual boot vista and xp on my HP dv5t laptop.

The reason I want to do this is some old games, such as Habro's Axis & Allies, don't work with my new computer that has vista. But I refuse to replace vista altogether with XP, so the option left is dual booting.

My dv5t already has vista ultimate 64-bit, so the XP is what I would be adding.

I really have no idea how to do this as I'm horrible with computers, so advice is appreciated.

From what I hear, I need both a vista cd and an xp cd to do this? I ordered my laptop WITH vista and HP sent no vista cd with it, just vista pre-installed on the system. Does this mean that if I want to dual boot I'll also have to buy another vista disk even though my computer already has vista?

    Thank you.

That linked site talks about not needing a vista dvd to dual boot, using EasyBCD instead. Can anyone confirm this is a good idea?

Also, looking on amazon.com, XP cds are more expensive than I thought. Does it matter which type of XP I use? I also have a Dell XP reinstallation cd that came with my old Dell laptop. However, the cd does say Dell on it and that it should be used to reinstall XP on Dell computers. Would it be unsafe to use this XP reinstallation cd from Dell on my HP laptop?

    Thank you! :)

    Bump.

Can anyone comment on my above questions please? Especially using a dell xp reinstallation cd on an HP laptop?

After install XP, your Vista won't be bootable. This disc will help you to fix the Vista bootloader. I did many times, either Vista first or XP first installed.

Your XP of Dell may install without problem if it's not locked to hardware configuration. I did install a Vista Ultimate from Dell without any problem.

You can try and use your Recovery option if anything goes wrong.

Install XP first, then install Vista...that Vista's bootmanager takes over and makes your life easier!

I have XP Professional and Vista Ultimate x64 dual-booting on my HP dv5t. Everything's been smooth for both OS's...

Well my old desktop died so now I have no way at all to play Axis & Allies. I'm going to try to use the dell xp reinstallation cd on my hp laptop. Hopefully it works and doesn't kill my hp laptop. I'll try using the EasyBCD progam since I don't have a vista disk. Hopefully it works too...
