The HP dv1000 (with something other than that ugly 1.5 PM) is supposedly a revolutionary notebook that combines the best of entertainment and productivity. Or at least some say so. However, would this newbie be able to endure the trials of four years of college torture as a desktop replacement? Dependability is key, and I want to make sure my college lappy will stand the test of time and not eat and destroy all of my precious files one day.

If you want a notebook you can really depend on, try one from Fujitsu or IBM. The DV1000 is a good notebook and will serve you well if you treat it right.
What are your uses for it? It has integrated graphics, so playing the latest games on it is a no-no. -
My son got it for college and is happy with it. However, he has it for few 2-3 monthes.
Take a look also at the Compaq Presario V2000 series, the external design looks different but my impression is that internally it is identical to the DV1000.

One big advantage of the DV1000 and the V2000 is that you can also get them with a non glare option (very rare this days among notebooks).

Okay, the DV1000 and V2000 can handle those tasks. A 1.5 gig Pentium M processor will be just fine, its not that slow.
You may want to get more ram than 512 megs though for Photoshop, or if you'll run all those problems you mentioned at the same time. Also, Photoshop would run much better if you get a faster running hard drive, try not to get a hard drive with 4200 rpm.
If you want more info about it, check out its forums at www.dv1000forums.com
This notebook is pretty reliable and well built, treat it well and it won't die out on you.
dv1000 - Can it stand the test?
