All of you dv1000 owners/enthusiasts/loathers, could you give me some mixed comments on the good, bad, and the ugly concerning the dv1000 and its Compaq cousin. Anything goes!

I'm headed off to college in the fall and am searching for a notebook. The specs of the dv1000 seem pretty darn good, but I am just not sure about quality and durability of product and support.

    Thanks!

I had the 1.6 Ghz with 5400 RPM 60 GB Hard drive. Performance, battery life and weight were excellent. I didn't like the external case which was prone to scratches. Screen resolution was not that good for movies and medical imaging. Try it out in Best Buy or Compusa before buying. Get the 12 cell battery instead of the 6 cell.

Well, if you buy the DV1000 from most stores, you'll get a little remote that fits in the PCMCIA slot. That can power on/off the notebook, control Powerpoint presentations and of course MP3 and DVD playback.

I found the V2000's keyboard to be a bit flimsy and I like the textured touchpad of the DV1000. I just found out that the DV1000 can both horizontal and vertical scroll, despite its touchpad only having a vertical scroll bar.

With the standard 6 cell battery, you'll get about 3-4 hours and twice that with the 12 cell battery. Both weight about 5 pounds and are easy to carry around.
