HP has just posted an updated BIOS (F.12) for the dv1000 and V2000 series notebook which fixes the infamous system clock issue (the clock would not run during power off or hibernation and would reset to the last time it was set upon restart making it appear that the clock waas actually running backwards.

I have just installed it on a dv1000 and it does indeed seem to fix the clock problem.

    Hi,

    I "Had" V2000 with F12 BIOS
    the problem was still there!!
so I sent it back two days ago
They order a new one for me and then I have to wait till Dec to get it
sigh.... hope the new one will have no problem!

    BTW, I reinstalled XP sp1 for V2000
It could not find SD controller and left an Unkonwn PCI device in the system!(sp2 will show correctly when installed)
does anyone know how to get it recognized?

cucaracha - that's an interesting note. I'm surprised any retail unit would have already had F.12 on it since it was still in QA testing inside HP as late as Monday (11/22). How long ago did you get your v2000? I wouldn't have thought they'd have an unreleased BIOS on a shipping unit. All I can say is that F.12 BIOS update currently available did definitely fix the problem on mine.

As for the SD problem, I heard somewhere before that there was a bug with something on the SD card reader - wonder if this was it. But, you say SP2 will recognized it correctly, is there a reason you don't want to upgrade to SP2?

my V2000 was shipped from hpshopping.com on Nov 16, so I got mine on NOv 17 with F12 BIOS
in my case, if I put off both adaptor and battery from v2000, the clock stop.
one week later, I sent it back due to clock issue
actutally I did consider reflesh the F12BIOS; however, at the time only F08 was available on line...
and I could not find software online which can backup my BIOS
I should have wait the new released F12 bios.... and now I have to wait till next Wed.
good for you to get the clock issue fixed, nedly.
About SP2, it costs me too much inconvenience...such as IE, it keeps asking me what windows will open, do I have to block it such and such
firewall is another thing which annoys me...I dont really need such "PRETECTION"

about SD problem, I had no idea with it, even I searched over the Internet, I could not find any solution..
but even with the Device remains unknown, I am available to read the SD card with V2000....("unknown" made me feel uncomfortable, guess I am a little picky!)

p.s.one of the agent told me that when I pull off the adaptor from v2000
I have to wait 5 mins then can stick the battery into V2000..the clock will just work fine....I really doubt about this

New PCI driver is included in SP2 and will fix issue.
    SP1 requires driver from mfr.

This is a big problem, this bios "fix" does not solve the problem for computers that already come with the F.12 like mine did, even if you flash it again with it. so this is only a fix for F.08 people. Is anyone still having a problem that went from an F.08 to a F.12?

HP has stated that they are currently working on a new BIOS fix to address the problem on systems not responding to the current F.12 BIOS update. Last I heard, it is expected to be available in the next 1-2 weeks.

AHHHHHH. I HAVE TRIED CALLING HP ABOUT THIS, AND NO ONE HAS GIVEN ME AN ANSWER, THEY KEEP TELLING ME THAT THEY WILL CALL ME BACK, AND THEY HAVE NOT. MY CLOCK IS NOT WORKING WHEN MY COMPUTER IS RUNNING ON BATTERIES AND I SHUT IT OFF, IT WORKS WHEN THE COMPUTER IS ON, BUT STOPS COUNTING UP WHEN IT IS OFF. MY COMPUTER CAME WITH THE F.12 FIX IN IT ALREADY, AND I HAVE TRIED FLASHING IT WITH THE F.12 AGAIN. WHAT SHOULD I DO? I DO NOT WANT TO RETURN IT, BUT I CANNOT HAVE A COMPUTER THAT HAS THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE HEARD THAT THERE IS A NEW FIX COMING OUT FROM SOME PEOPLE, BUT NOT FROM HP. HEEEELLLLLPPPPPPP PLLEEEASEE...

I am not happy. I have been trying to get my clock problem fixed with HP for over a week now, and they keep telling me that someone will call them back and they keep trying to help me fix it, but nothing is working. The newest thing that they want to try is to use a new battery. Not a CMOS battery, just a new laptop battery. I told them that I have two batteries, a 12 cell and a 6 cell, and the clock problem persists with both batteries. and how in the hell could the laptop battery have ANYTHING to do with whether or not the computer keeps time when it is shut off. I am so sick of their terrible support at this point, my recommendation is to look else where, because personally, if they cannot fix it this week or get it on the road to being fixed, i have no use for the computer.

Call, demand to speak to a supervisor, tell him (or her) that this is your "X'th" call to them, that this is a known problem that many have already sent their unit in for and had it repaired, and that there is "NO USER FIX" and very nicely and firmly demand service on your unit and that they send you a shipper box.

Should take no more than 10 minutes if you talk to the right person. You've already spent your time following their scripts and talking to front-line techs. It's time to move past that. But don't expect the Techs to do it for you - you need to demand to speak to someone who can help you arrange a trip to service.

yeah, today I am getting my new battery for my laptop, like that has ANYTHING to do with it. I am not a tech support guy, but I have been using computers long enough to KNOW that it has nothing to do with it. I will give it a try, but I am positive it will not fix it and I will be calling them tonight demanding that it be fixed and back to me before Christmas.

well I called tech support again for the 6th time in a week and a half and after having them put me through their whole prescripted card about taking out the battery and holding the power button and resetting this and that, which i have been made to do 5 times already, and having it not fix it still, I told them that we needed to resolve it tonight. So I am sending it in to get fixed, they say 4-5 days and it will be back to me, we will see. If the clock problem is not fixed, then there will be real trouble. Have others sent theirs in to get fixed? Did it work with all of you?

    hi tyspc,
I've just fixed my v2000 clock issue. Originally, the unit came with an F.7 BIOS and after flashing it with the F.12 BIOS, the clock problem was solved. Relying on the reseller where I bought the unit was just a dream, they're just good at selling but when it comes to services, all the technician can do was promising "this and that" i.e. sweet crap promises. Hopefully, you'll get another release of BIOS to fix your problem coz HP had released twice - the F.8 & F.12

I'm looking at the Hewlett Packard Pavilion dv1040ca. This model shouldn't have the clock problem should it?

it's looking like all the newly shipped dv1000 series have been fixed. I know I haven't had a problem with mine since I re-flashed it. (It shipped with F.12, I re-flashed with F.12, and it seems that everything is peachy-keen.

While I have not been affected by the clock issue with my V2000, I did notice while trying to resolve an issue with the SD card reader that there is a new F.13 BIOS posted on the support page for the V2000. This may be the fix for the issues where the update to F.12 did not work for some people.
