I have had my dv1000 for a few months now and am overall very satisfied, however, I've noticed something change with the volume in the last week or so.

Before now, the speakers were excellent quality, loud and vibrant...for a notebook...and I could watch a DVD from the other side of the room...but then...a week or so later I tried firing up another DVD and I've noticed the volume levels seem really low...too low...and it's in Windows mode, not quickplay that this is happening.

The only possibiliy that I can think of is some application that I installed recently overtook or manipulated the volume controls somehow...becuase this is very annoying, I have to almost lean in to hear the volume now!

I installed quite a bit of programs, such as PowerDVD 6, various Adobe products (multimedia), Sony music and video editing software, and lots of other multimedia and multimedia content creation software...the reason I think it may be one of these apps is because when I fired up one of the video editing programs to see how it would perform on the laptop, I found I couldn't control the volume via the blue light up buttons above the keyboard...plus the new apps are pretty much the only significant change in the last few weeks...strange...any thoughts?? Thanks a ton!

Check the Volume Control (speaker icon in the bottom right taskbar) and readjust the sliders.

Can also be accessed through the control panel , sounds and multimedia, volume.

Thanks for the advice, I checked it and fiddled around with some sliders and found that the "wave" slide was too low - so I moved that up to max - and the sound seems to be a lot better - I don't know if it's back quite to the level it was before, but a lot closer! Thanks again...I wonder why that happened, because I never touched the sliders previously????
