I'm getting some very weird behavoir with the system clock on my dv1000. When I go into hibernate mode or shut down, the clock doesnt seem to keep track of time properly. Once I power back on the time is set back to the last value I manually input. For example, if I go into the time/date settings and set the time at 9:45pm then use the computer for an hour, shut down, then restart...the clock is back at 9:45pm!!!
Also, about half the time I'm just using the computer the clock refuses to update. It will sit there stuck until I open the time/date control and close it again. About 50% of the time I do this the clock will start ticking again...but not always. When the time/date window is open the clock always starts ticking until it's closed again.
This happens no matter if "Internet Time" feature is ON or OFF.
anyone else get this?

Okay I have this too. It is on the V2000 however. I am returning it. I noticed that you are ordering your wife one as well. Did she get her's yet? Does it have the same problem?

Arranged a return for the DV1000 today...fedex is picking up tomorrow.
V2000 arrived last week and clock works fine. It also doesn't exhibit the severe viewing angle issues of the HP. Too bad since I did like the HP better overall (quickplay, remote, nicer keyboard).

Sent mine back today. Not sure if I get another or something. I will take a day or two to decide. Look for some bargains again, and who knows. I will probably order another, but I am a little afraid after hearing some people having heat issues, monitor viewing and then the clock problem.

Casey,
Both the DV1000 and V2000 have the brightview option. The V2000's screen is overall a bit less contrasty, but does NOT seem to have the extreme viewing limitation of my DV1000. Even after adjusting the graphics properties of both to match by meeting in the middle somewhere, the DV1000 was still overly sensitive to any monitor tilt.
I did stop by fry's yesterday and looked at a DV1030 on display. It seemed to NOT have the same problem as mine...but cannot be sure due to lack of good comparison media (been using a couple of dvd titles to test at home).
Overall, the lcd on my V2000 is slightly more washed out than the DV1000 at default graphics settings. However, I'll take that any day over the "inverted colors" problem! -
Casey,
Do you still have that battery? Looks like I'm keeping the V2000, so I would like to buy it if you do. You should be able to contact me via email thru my profile now.
Thanks,

I posted this in another thread elsewhere. Just wanted to make sure anyone following see this:
Okay, got the DV1000 from fedex about an hour ago and have been setting up /playing with it.
It pretty much is a similar machine to the Compaq V2000 that I returned.
First, I liked the layout of the keyboard and color scheme on the Compaq better. There is just a lot to the DV1000. I also don't care for the design of the buttons for quick play, wireless, etc.
That said, I believe the keyboard is a little better on the V2000 and I liked that keyboard a lot. I am sure I will get used to the quick play and wireless buttons.
Love the brightview screen, same as V2000.
The speakers on this are a lot better than the v2000 and they had better speakers than average for a laptop. So the dv1000 has great speakers.
Weight and size is good.
Obviously I can't tell you how long the battery will last, but if it is like the v2000 it should be about 3.5 hours.
Now the reason I sent the v2000 back was the clock wasn't working and was stopping or going backwards when in hibernate or turned off. Not a problem here. Works great.
Looks like I will keep this computer.
Oh one note, I ordered the already prepared package, the DV1040US fom the hpshopping.com site on Thursday about 10PM. It arrived today, so shipping is very quick. It was supposed to include a set of headphones, but instead a note was in the box that they ran out. They give you a number to call to order them, they will ship them for free. Estimate is Nov 15th.
So I would give this 2 humbs up, unless you play highend games. Otherwise it is small enough to go anyway and big enough to actualy see whats on the screen. Customer support is great. I have called 4 times to either sales or customer service between this and the V2000, and everytime someone picked up within 60 seconds, and they spoke english. To top it off it is a toll free number.
