i've just about decided on the hp dv1000 (with 1.73ghz and 1 gb ram, 128mb intel GMA). i'm not really a big gamer, however, i would like to ask if this unit will be good enough for me to play need for speed on.

I think no. A Dv4000 would be much better.

Look at the Toshiba Satellite M50 series, its a 14" notebook like the DV1000 but you can configure it with an ATI Radeon X600. The DV1000 is not a gaming notebook unfortunately, I really wish it were. :(

Nothing with Integrated graphics is good for games. I like the Compal EFL-30 recomendation (thanks zazonz :)).

If you're willing to go up to 15.4", you have the HP dv4000/Compaq V4000t, and also the MSI-1029.

I second rahul's Toshiba M50 idea. It's got enough muscle to play what you want, and isn't as shoddily built as some other low-end Toshibas are.

thanks for the input guys. unfortunately, i am in pakistan at the moment, and i dont have the luxury of ordering customized units, as shipping will be a problem i think. im sticking with the dv1000, i will just have to do with dvd for passing time, instead of playing games.
