I actually very fascinated by the look of dv1000 so much. Its function and application is very interesting. Because I'm a student now and finding the notebooks that full of functions and low weight is hard to find. So I love all is dv1000.
BUT! From what I have reviewed the specs and problems from many website and from ones I know. I can conclude that 'dv 1000 has a lot of problem' which is:
1. Bluetooth is on-and-off. It can intermittently show the massage as 'Unknown device' and when turning on and off several time, the laptop can see the device again. That's problem. Someone has tried to install newer driver, but only few person has succeeded in solving it.
2. Bright view has inverted color problem. Because when you're seeing at the screen you must see is directly. No tilting a bit especially when looking in the lower angle. I will has inverted effect and the picture or the movies will appear significantly darker than the normal non-bright view laptop.
3. Buzzing sound of the power adaptor is very annoying when you're in the quiet room alone. Many people have these problems and no one can solve it so far.
4. Someone say touch-pad mouse and keyboard are wearing off very quickly (1 week). But I see only one persone who has this problem.
5. Clock doesn't run when turning of the system, it will run again when turing on. I found some people installing new bios from HP or installing Windows XP SP2--> Some can solve it, some can not. Most people have encounterd this problem !!!
6. Some people cannot reinstall the Quickplay program when they format the system and reinstall them again.
7. Few says the SD card cannot work properly --> Must fix the USB port!
8. The sound of music playing when turing of the system and turing on with using media program are diffent. The latter is more louder 2 times!!
9. One says the keyboard has problem: pushing one button and the nearby 6 button are descent too.
10. Outer case is scratched easily --> Advice to find the sleeve for laptop will solve it.
11. Low graphic ability. But some says that it can play The Sims 2 and Counter Striker smoothly. (Not Doom3 and Half life 2) and that's fine for me.
**With all these problem, I wonder if it still worth buying this laptop.??? And I wonder if these problem has ways to solve it all???

I have a dv1000 series and I LOVE it...I'll go through your list one by one:
1. Bluetooth - I don't have it, so I can't comment
2. Brightview - I don't seem to mind the so-called inverted color problem...from my experience, all LCD's do this...the only thing I would warn against brightview is if you commonly work in areas that have a lot of lighting (you'll get reflections)...ps you can go to best buy and/or circuit city to see the screen first-hand.
3. Buzzing sound - I have not experienced this
4. touchpad and keyboard wear - I've had mine for about two weeks with heavy use...everything still looks fine
5. Bios clock problem - mine shipped with the F.12 bios, I didn't notice at first, but after it had been unplugged and turned off for a while, it lost time...I flashed again to F.12 and I haven't noticed it again since.
6. Quickplay re-install - no offense to those people who can't get it re-installed, but they don't know how to read instructions. You just need to be sure to keep your 204 Meg partition in tact if you reformat. I reformatted and created another partition and I now have Quickplay, XP Pro, and Fedora Core 3 on my computer.
7. Card Reader - gotta install the latest drivers
8. Sound Level - I have noticed the sound seems louder within Windows vs. Quickplay
9. Keyboard - huh? it seems like every other laptop keyboard I've used.
10. Outer case - Mine doesn't have any scratches...not sure what they're referring to...seems to have a similar finish to my old Dell. Not as tough as a Thinkpad, but those things are bulletproof
11. Graphics - I haven't played any games on it, can't vouch. But remember, IT'S NOT A GAMING LAPTOP!!!
