Hi. I tried hard to find a solution to my problem in the other threads, including the dv2000 inverter fix thread, but no luck.

I have a dv1000 and the screen blacked out after booting up. If you tap the lid switch the backlight will flicker on and off, and sometimes if you do it a lot the screen will stay lit up for a good 5 seconds. One time it even stayed on for the entire time i used the laptop.

The lcd inverter was making buzzing noises so I bought a "new" one on ebay for cheap. I am 65% sure its really "new". In any case, it did not solve my problem, although there is no more buzzing sound coming from the inverter.

I dismantled the entire laptop and cleaned it with an air canister, including as much as i could in and around the lid switch, but still no fix.

What is the problem? Bad replacement inverter? Need a new backlight? Lid switch still dirty/needs to be replaced?

    Thanks for your ideas,

    Sincerely,

    Frustrated

It sounds like a good solution but I can't confirm as I'm unfamiliar with the innards of that particular model. It does sound like your lid switch has gone bad.

How about broken inverter cable? Tapping the case makes it temporarily connect again.

I think I'm going to try and rip off the lid switch.. I'll let you know how it goes! (I don't think its the cable; the backlight only flickers when i tap the switch itself, not any other part of the case)

Well, I tore open the mechanical lid switch on the mobo. I am not sure how the mechanical part works because it was so small that by the time I took it off it was a miniature disaster including some plastic and two V-shaped copper bits. On the inside of the switch container are two metal plates that are soldered to the board, with a space between them. I figured the space meant that when the switch is pushed in, the metal bits wuold have closed the gap and the backlight turned off. Lo and behold, after putting everything back together, still no backlight and this time no lid switch to tap. I opened it up again and decided to permanently connect the two metal plates so I jimmy rigged a strip of metal to branch them and then put it all back together again. This time the backlight came on, then turned off, before windows boot up screen. I took a match and played with my jimmy rigging while the computer was on, and the backlight flickered on and off like it had been before I destroyed the lid switch. is going on? Was it not the lid switch? ARGGHHHHHHHH
