I bought a dv1000 approx. 3 months ago, and albeit this is probably a bit premature, I was wondering what the upgrade possibilities are for the dv1000 in terms of hardware?

Is the CPU upgradable - perhaps to the dual cores coming out in the next year or so?

Is the hard drive upgradable - perhaps to a larger capacity or faster drive?

Anything else I am unaware of that might be upgradable beyond the obvious RAM upgrades?

I know that many people have upgraded the HD to a 7200 RPM one and have said it was quite easy. Not sure about the CPU though.

How much battery life would I lose with the 7200rpm drive, or would I lose any at all? Because if not, 7200rpm would be a great install!

Hard drive installation is quite easy on notebooks in general. I think you will lose some battery life, but not too much. I'd say the upgrade is worth it.

I've heard that it reduces it (battery life) a little, and I've also heard that some of the newer 7200 drives are more efficent and use less power. So who knows, but I would have to say (from what I've read) that it affects battery life minimally. I haven't installed one on mine yet but it would be a nice upgrade. Check out www.dv1000forums.com and you can talk to people who have actually upgraded their HD if you're serious.
