Both of these laptops fit my needs very well for the price, so now I need to decide between them.

    1) The media features on the dv1000 don't matter to me. In fact, I almost wonder if the constantly lit buttons would become an annoyance.

    2) I like something that doesn't feel like it's going to break. How bad actually is the flex on the screen for the v2000? A little bit won't be a problem, but I don't want to feel like it's going to break.

    3) How bad is the color inversion effect on the dv1000? I have a feeling this could drive me insane.

    4) How much better is the keyboard on the dv1000 than the v2000? I've heard the touchpad and buttons are better too. I will be typing on this quite a lot, so a workable keyboard is a must.

Basically it comes down to the screen vs the keyboard. Which is a better sacrifice?

If you want a great keyboard, get a ThinkPad.

The premium on IBMs is a little high for me. Also, I'm not sure about the quality of the screen, and I prefer the widescreen format.

I need (well, not need, but demand) a gig of RAM. If I order a minimal amount with a ThinkPad, is easy to upgrade it myself to save money?

I had the same probelm and chose the dv1000.
I dont use the media buttons that much but the fact that they are lit all the tie doesnt bother me.
I don't know about the v2000 but the dv1000 has a slight screen flex, not bad but there can be a bit when pressing hard.
    Dont know about color inversion.
The keyboard just seemed to flow better for me and I liked the touchpad and buttons much better on the dv1000.
I went to best buy and had my heart set on the v2000 because I liked the color scheme and shape of the case better and also I didn't need the extra media features, when I left the keyboard and the touchpad changed my mind.
I think it's a matter of preference, if you get a chance to check them both out I think it will make your decision much easier.

Yes it is easy to upgrade the memory on a ThinkPad. You just pop of a panel on the bottom and put in the memory. The Z series is coming soon which is widescreen.
