hey . i was wondering if it is better to buy the dv 1000 from a store like circuit city or straight from the manufacture.. i heard some things that when u buy it from stores like circuit city instead of giving u a 8x dvd burner they tend to to give away a 4x dvd burner .. so.. if i am going to pay what should i do..??? can u recommend me ..need some feedback.please

I think it also depends on how picky you are. I know you can pick up some really good deals in stores but I liked being able to configure mine exactly the way I wanted it, only compromising on "extras" because of budget constraints and not because the store-bought version only has "X" specs. The manufacturer might also be better about returns on models that aren't built the way you specified. But I've never bought from a store so I couldn't give a comparison.

Buy the best deal. Make sure to take into account extras and tax though, along with return policy.

I think you should go with either hpshopping or costco and change the 256MBx2 to 512MBx1 (add $25). And maybe grab the remote for $15.

The HP.com seems like the best deal. You get the 8x DVD and a faster processor with the faster harddrive.

The details of the upcoming Costco coupon are this:

    $150 off $1,299.99 = $1,149.99

    What do you get?

    Pentium M 735 (1.7 Ghz)
    512 MB memory
    60 GB hard drive
    DVD+RQ
    14" Brightview Widescreen
    Quick Play with remote control

All that comes from the coupon that is sitting in my wallet as we speak. It's valid from Jan. 31 to Feb 6. On Monday I am heading to Costco to pick mine up. I have yet to find as good a deal at HP Shopping. Not to mention Costco's six month return policy.

    I have a v2000.
It is always better to configure at hpshopping.
Current flavour is 8x DVD-RW, 12 cell battery, 5400rpm HD, Bluetooth.
Costco must be passing off non-moving inventory [ :D]
