    Hi everyone,
I just recieved my hp dv2000 cto yesterday. It is a really nice machine. Here are the specs:
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
    Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache)
    14.1" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
    128MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7200
HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam
    $50 off upgrade from 1GB (2 Dimm) to 2GB (2 Dimm)!
    FREE Upgrade from 80GB 5400RPM to 120GB 5400RPM !!
    LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer
    Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
    No TV Tuner w/remote control
High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    Microsoft(R) Works 8.0
HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

The problem I'm having is when the machine is first started it takes a while for the network to recognize. I can get on the internet right away but the local netork is not working. The icon in the task tray has a red X for about a minute and then the screen will go black for a split second. After the screen goes back to the desktop the network is recognized. Then everything is working.
Can someone tell me why it takes so long to recognize the network and why the screen goes black?
How can I fix this issue?
    Thanks

Welcome to Vista :) . I believe it is an issue with one of the drivers which is slow in loading and interferes with the startup process. So, the system has to wait until the driver loads and then start loading the sidebar and the wireless. This happens in my system as well and one of the reasons why I let the system to sleep and only shutdown when necessary. The screen refreshing is again another one of Vista Nvidia driver annoyances.

Thanks for your help. I thought I was going to have to send it back. I like it too much to do that. I will say that I'm not at all impressed with hp technical support.
