Alright, I've heard that the batteries that come with the dv2000 and dv6000 notebooks don't display a "time remaining" status, but instead only give a percentage. I guess I was under the impression that the default Windows battery monitor automatically had that capability. Is there something about these batteries/laptops that prevents even the windows battery monitor from giving a remaining time estimate?

As an owner of a dv2000 I can tell you for sure there is not something that tells you 'time remaining' info.

I found it odd when I first used the notebook on battery, but since I rarely use battery power, it doesn't bother me.

Not even my dv5000 shows me time remaining info. I just get battery percentage.

None of the newer HP laptops have the time remaining feature. I have sen it in older V2000's but in most newer laptops they havent implemented this feature properly or intentionally left it out for some odd reason.

Thats really odd. I guess I was always under the assumption that it was a feature of Win XP and not something the manufacturers could really enable or disable.

You might want to check out Yahoo Widgets. They have a cool widget called "Battery Time" by Jordan Mandel. In the preferences you can set it to calculate remaining battery time. There are some other cool widgets on the Yahoo site as well. Some fun stuff.
