On April 1st, I bought an HP DV2310 (turion x2, nvidia 6150, vista). It was awesome, except whenever I would switch to battery power - within about 30 mins or so, the whole system would freeze up and I'd have to do a hard restart.

So I exchanged it. Same problem. So I exchanged it again. Same problem!!

So I returned it and bought a slightly different model - an DV2315. And - you guessed it - same problem :(

Its pretty obvious to me that its not the machine since its been the same thing on 4 of them! And I've tried everything I can think of - including reformatting the drive - no help.

I'm not running games. And I only have normal software (MS Office, Photoshop, etc.)

I've tried almost everything I can think of - but I'm open to any and all ideas. Please help! Thanks in advance :)

Hmm...four different models having the same issues seems to indicate that software or any connected hardware on your system might be causing the issue. The first thing I would suggest is to try using the system stock for a while and see if the issue can be replicated at stock settings. If it passes this stage without any problems then try installing your applications one by one and check again. I know this might sound a bit tedious but probably the only way to identify what is causing the lockups.

i have been having the same problems with a dv2315 i bought. i actually work for best buy and have had the geek squad run diagnostics on everyting in the notebook. everything passes every time. i am on my second one now. it locks up randomly. on mine, it doesn't matter if it's on battery power or if it's plugged in. it also doesn't matter if anything is plugged into it (for a while i thought it was my logitech wireless keyboard and mouse). i also have gotten three different blue error screens. one was a reference by pointer error (or something similar). the others dealt with the usb ports or drivers. also, i noticed in my first 2315 that in the device manager, three of the six HID devices had the yellow triangles on them. anyone have any ideas? i really like this model's features vs price. i am in safe mode with networking now because it locked up on me while i was registering here the first time.

Best Buy has the DV2315 on sale for $799, I was considering it but after reading this thread I think I'll keep looking...
