They are real scumbags at least here in India. I was assured by an email that they would not like to lose an important and dedicated customer who had been buying HP products for the last 8 years. HP India is like a rotten apple. They didn't honour their words and here I am with this junk of a machine which will be easily boiling water and frying eggs.

.... My DV9230US just took a sh!t.. Video card went out and now the motherboard needs to be replaced.. Just like the rest of you guys/gals.. HP needs to step up on this one... Anyone have any luck with HP replacing these?
-
Yeah I had great luck by getting them to replace the motherboard thrice over a period of 3 years. The total cost of repair for my notebook now exceeds the price of a new notebook, ha ha.
-
I just want to add my two cents. I work as a contract network engineer/systems admin and have seen quite few computers in my day, if a customer brings one of these laptops in I recommend they either replace it right away, or call HP....get shot down on getting any help whatsoever and then replace it.
I've seen 6 of these laptops in the past 1.5 years.
5x HP dv6000. 3 had bad wireless the other 2 would power on and flash all the status lights but no further (nothing on the display, no fans, etc).
The other one was a Compaq f572US with the same no boot issue.
These laptops are junk and hp's support is even worse. They refused to fix any of them, for that I refuse to ever recommend another consumer level hp machine to any of my clients. The frustrating thing is that there business support is usually pretty good, two sides of a coin I guess. -
So........... am I lucky.
I bought dv2000 early 2007. Same Problem started (won't start, only LEDs glow) after one year just after warranty expired. Contacted HP, HP repaired free by changing the mother board. Every thing is good for one more year. Same problem again. Contacted HP again. This time HP demanded an amount with which I can get a new laptop with better spec.
I just kept the computer for 2/3 days idle, and started again. It booted up. Wow. From then It boots reliably once in 5/10 attempts. Some times need a rest of 10 to 30 minutes. Once started, every thing works fine. This computer is serving wife for browsing etc from 6 months. I have a thinkpad for me.
I wanted to buy another. Not even looking at HP now. Can you suggest what is most reliable brand for a home notebook. Thinking of Toshiba for now. -
Problem was Nvidia, not HP. Though HP could have handled it a bit better.
As for reliable... hard to say since they all pretty much use the same ODM's to build their systems.
Thing you want to avoid is systems that run hot. Dedicated GPUs tend to heat things up. Especially the more powerful ones. Integrated graphics (Intel) run cooler. -
I know this is heat problem. the laptop gets too hot for normal work. It has Nvidia 6150 graphics , Nothing great. HP laptops suffered a lot than others I believe.

I purchased dv6500z with tl-60 and 8400M GS during Dec, 2007. I had few shutdowns over the time. I purchased laptop cooling pad and everything was ok. But from past 1 week, i got frequent shutdowns with video watching / playing simple games. For these tasks, temps are reaching to 80c even with cooling pad once in a while.
Now, i am out of warranty from HP and credit card. Any idea, why they did not include this series as part of warranty recall. Looks like, my system is also equipped with same configuration. Nvidia paid money to HP for supplying faulty chips. Not sure why HP not addressing the same. -
Any of you which have had the GPU failure in any of the DV Pavilion series - should definitly take HP to small claims court - I did and settled for 75% of the initial purchase and court costs - just for reference see hplies.com - - you can actually use civiltree.com to file and process if you don't wish to go down to the court house to file the papers. Many people are going this route and getting reimbursed toward this manufacturing defect

how to solve display problel in dv 2000

Hi, sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm having an issue with my dv2000's wireless.
I don't know if it's related to the same issues noted in this thread, though. My wireless usually works okay, but every once in a while, it's connection speed will drop dramatically. The connection itself doesn't drop, though (my computer is still shown as being connected to my network, and the signal strength will even stay the same). Everything just loads very, very slowly. It's not a problem with my internet connection, either, because even my router configuration page loads slowly.
For some reason, this almost exclusively happens when I revive my computer from a low-power state. Sometimes if I'm down/uploading a large file, I'll set my computer to a low-power setting (mostly dims the monitor and turns it off completely after a minute) and leave it be. Every once in a while (maybe 50% of the time), when I return to the computer and bring it back to regular power settings, my connection speed will drop significantly. I know it's triggered when I revive it because I can see the speed drop on the meter in my download/torrent manager.
Usually I can "fix" the problem by going to my router page and changing the wifi channel (I usually switch between 1, 6, and 11). This, of course, takes a while (maybe 2 or 3 minutes) because the router page loads so slowly, but it usually solves the problem. I think it works not necessarily because I'm changing the channel but because I'm doing a sort of soft reset on the wifi connection? I'm not sure, though. Turning the wireless on my computer on/off doesn't seem to do the trick.
Does this sound at all like the issues people were having in relation to the recall? It seems it's far too late for the warranty (the HP page doesn't even exist anymore). Could the problem be isolated to the wifi card? If so, would replacing it fix it? I just don't want to spend money (however little) on a piece of hardware I may not need. If it's a problem with the motherboard, I suppose I would just need to buy a new computer.
By the way, I'm running Win7 Professional 64-bit, if that matters (I upgraded from Vista when the student discount promotion was running).
Thanks
[EDIT]
I forgot to mention: I have integrated graphics, so the whole nVidia thing wouldn't be a problem for me. -
Guess I stumbled onto this forum to late. Bought my dv9420 new in Oct. '07. In Dec. '08 my wireless went out then followed by all kinds of stuff not recommended for a properly operating laptop. Sent it into HP for repair and was told that it would be covered under the extended warranty "recall" or whatever they called it at that time. Got it back about 10 days later with everything working fine.
In Jan. '09 same symptoms started happening again followed by a complete failure this time. Was told it was "out of warranty" and not covered for repairs. Paid the $300 + dollars and this time took out the stupid extended warranty for another $120. Again turn around was fairly quick being about 7-10 business days but now am out a bunch of cash as well.
Started with the same issue of the wireless internet going again in Sept. '10, so I bought an external wireless adapter as I couldn't afford to lose the computer for 2 business weeks again. Didn't take to long for the thing to completely die this time around.
Called and complained this time that this is ridiculous. 3 times in less than 3 years I've had the computer in for repair. Cost me another $330 bucks which I was extremely upset about having to pay for something that obviously was not correcting the problem. Asked this time to be escalated up to one of their Case Managers as I wanted something done about this and the "front line people" are useless.
71 hours later got a call from "Dave - I can't tell you my last name", Case manager. Had a very heated conversation with him about the continued failure of this product and the fact that I was EXTREMELY UPSET that I had to pay to fix this issue AGAIN. I told him I wanted the product replaced as it was obviously a faulty unit and was being repaired with faulty parts. He basically just laughed at me and said well is it working now? What kind of A**hole am I dealing with. I told him to expect a phone call in about 8-10 months when it dies again and the call would not be pleasant then. This is BS. Am now looking into what I can do or if there is anything that I can do to get my money back and get the unit replaced. Will look into the HP Lies: The nVidia Defect website to see what further action I can take. -

I already invested in one after the first "meltdown". So been there, done that.

Hello
I have a hp dv6500 (dv6610ep) that doesn't charge the battery and won't start without the battery. When i connect the power jack, the blue light around the connector lights up but not the light in front (exactly like this video: YouTube - HP Pavilion DV6500 Wont Turn On). I have charged the battery in another dv6000, and it works fine. Can I connect the charger directly in place of the battery? , Whats the pinout for the battery connectors? Help. Thanks.

(sorry for my english) -
It looks like those jackholes at HP took down the service enhancement page that we all know and love - Now I can't even look up models to see if they were in the enhancement class.

The hard drive went out and needed to be replaced. My customer informed me that she had had problems with the internal router and was using a Belkin router - beginning about a year after the initial purchase. I replaced the hard drive on this HP DV6000 laptop computer. I attempted to use the recovery media which had been created and which had been brought to me. The media was corrupted also, so I upgraded the system to Vista. Suddenly the internal wireless router started working again - intermittently. I thought that the wireless router needed to be replaced. While looking for a router, I checked the HP forum as well as the internet to see if anyone else had had this particular issue. There are over 2000 posts that I went through. Some people offered "fixes", other people said to get an external wireless adapter. Apparently HP has isolated this issue to a motherboard problem. The posts also said that MANY of the people did not receive any type of notification regarding the issue. I spoke with my customer, and she, too, never received any type of notification that there was a problem with the motherboard. Had she been apprised of such, she would have sent the laptop in for repair.
On Monday - January 3, 2011 - at approximately 9:03 PM - after contacting support and spending almost an hour on the online chat with support, I received a call from a manager who identified himself only as "Bob" who sounded like he was from India. He told me that I was totally correct in my assumption that this is a motherboard problem, but that there was an expiration on the recall that had ended and that this machine could be repaired for $398. This is a crock! He said that I could call support the next day and open another case. He went on to say that EVERYONE had been notified! NONE of the HP Tech Reps (if you can call them that) had even read a single thread on the HP site - their OWN site! ONE thread alone goes from 2006 through 2010!!!!! MANY MANY PEOPLE HAD NOT EVER BEEN CONTACTED!!!!!!!! I have no report number, or service ticket number, because "Bob" would not give me the number, and the online chat tech closed out my ticket as well as the screen while I was speaking with himprior to my being able to get the number.
I did, however, contact my customer and again asked her if she received anything from HP -- an email, a telephone call, anything in the mail. She said "NO". Had she received it, should WOULD HAVE SENT IT BACK!!!!!!! She said that her email had not changed!!!!!!!!!
I called Wednesday - January 5, 2011. I spoke with a woman named Rishonda - received a case number - was charged for corrupt software replacement because the system is "out of warranty". I was told that the motherboard could be replaced for $398. I was again told that the client had been notified by email of the necessity of the motherboard replacement. She had NOT been notified. I was told that the part may NOT be available, but that I could get it repaired for $398. Now, that makes no sense at ALL! I felt as if she thought me a total MORON - just because I'm female! If the motherboard is NOT available, how in heaven's name can it be replaced for money? I guess they're going to just grow one (words that I'm thinking are inappropriate for this site)? This tells me that it CAN be replaced and that they DO have them available. She went on to say that this computer is "obsolete" - well a computer should NOT break after only four years use. She went on to say that even though there are many unhappy customers like me, that there were a lot of happy ones also. I felt like I had just been "negated" at that point. I could not believe what I was hearing from someone who is supposed to be a Customer CARE representative. I think they should change the name to Customer, We DON'T Care, actually. It should stand up to years, and they should be working for return customers - not just customers who purchase ONE computer, and never purchase another, BUT GO TO ANOTHER VENDOR BECAUSE THEY DO HAVE BETTER SUPPORT AND DO NOT TRY TO MAKE THE CUSTOMER FEEL LIKE A TOTAL MORON!!!!!!!! I guess they figure one is enough. One purchase does NOT keep a company alive. HP should be looking for multiple purchases. I can pretty much guarantee that I'll never purchase an HP. One of the things that HP seems to be overlooking is the fact that we are all only 3 steps away from the President of the United States - which means that we are only 1-3 steps away from top procurement officials of major corporations and the US Government. The right words to the right people - or the wrong words to the right people can make or break a deal. I have learned this through personal experience in commission sales - technology as well as automative - over the years. I will from here on out recommend to my friends and family that they purchase a Toshiba or a Sony Vaio. They are - in some cases - less money and in some cases more money - but at least they're not an HP, and they WORK!!!!!!!!!! RIGHT OUT OF THE GATE!
I cannot harp on this enough. I will close by reiterating that I know that this machine is out of warranty. However, the internal wireless issue is now and HAS BEEN a motherboard problem. It has been isolated to the motherboard by HP. It has been an ongoing problem. HP KNOWS that it is an ongoing problem. These computers do NOT come cheap and there is no way that it should be going out like this - after only 4 years. HP SHOULD go ahead and honor their recall on this machine. But this is not what you are doing. If there is a recall on an automobile, it is honored no matter WHEN the person brings the vehicle in! Until this issue has arisen, and as a result of ALL of the complaints on the SAME THING POSTED ON THEIR SITE - ON EVERY THREAD - and as a result of the double-talk from tech support, I would not recommend HP to my worst enemy at this point. If they would honor your recall and fix the issues, it would be a different story, but as it stands, I will be but one more voice on every single thread everywhere on the net INCLUDING ON THE HP SITE added to the countless complaints of HP customers! This should be replaced REGARDLESS! -
HP is the worst computer company EVER.
HP has the worth support and are crooks.
Do NOT buy HP, HP sucks. -
On the off chance that no one's posted on this thread yet (didn't catch a link in the last few pages):
There's a thread regarding the Nvidia/HP settlement going on over here.
Thanks fellow HP victims!
