Heat in the left palm area is pretty common. I am not too sure about the hard drive. What is its speed?

Depending on where your HD is mounted you may well feel heat in the left palmrest. I feel warmth under the ride side palmrest, and that's where the hard disk is (t60). Not too much you can do about it. :/

    >_<
It's hotter than my old laptop
Is it because of the casing? My old one is Mg. This one is plastic.

My dv2000t gets fairly warm on the left side, but it doesn't get hot. It shouldn't feel hot, just a bit warm.

it depends on how much your hard drive is being accessed. for me, usually it is cool to warm. however, when i start playing oblivion, which accesses the hard drive constantly, it gets really hot.

    Runs cool. I have a dv2000.

Maybe the nVidia GPU adds to the heat?

Don't forget, the DV2000 palm area is plastic (I think - at least it feels like plastic), plus the hard drive is millimeters under that. Pretty normal to be warm. Try either listening to how often the hard drive is working or see how much the hard drive activity light stays on. The more activity, the more warmth.
In fact, the bottom of the lappy gets warmer than the top (which make sense since the heat is rising). As long as you're not burning yourself.

my dv2040tx CPU temperature is pretty high as well: normal use it is about 125F, and under load (eg when playing a game), the temperature can go well over 150F

i don't know if this is normal, but it does seem a bit too hot for comfort...

I've got the same problem too with my Pavilion dv9362ea. The hard disk temperature goes about 55-60C without any special activity -just surfing the web, for example. CPU temperature reaches 50-55 C after just one hour, then the fan goes on for a while. I was wondering if these temperatures are normal.

By the way, hello to everybody in this forum -it's been really helpful to me, especially the thread about the high pitched noise coming from my notebook.
