My dv2000t has poor build quality I will see if I can get it exchanged.

The keyboard is uneven the area where the F4 and F5 keys are is warped in, the whole top row of keys is like a wave going up and down.

The memory/RAM cover is not flush, it bulges out. I opened the cover and saw the metal casing is bent inside, this is the metal cage used for shielding. It is not aligned properly and the RAM cover cannot screw down flat.

The Matsushita DVD+RW drive makes annoying clicking sounds when its reading @ 1x or lowest speed spin.

The screen is great, no dead-pixels very sharp and clear.

Is it possible to have a replacement shipped and then return the defective unit after I get the new one? (I am guessing they can charge my credit card until I return the old one) Anyone done this with hp?

Either way tell them that you want to be compensated for your troubles!
    Take photos of the machine!

+1 to HP "dropping" the ball the again score board.
    - lots to HP giving a damn about QC!

Seems to be a lemon. There are certainly no issues on the dv2000t based on the points you've listed.

Mine does not bulge out. But I noticed that the metal cage is bent in a concave inside.

Actually you can order another one and return the first one at the same time. I trust HP's customer service.

Yeah my metal shielding is also bent inwards in the ram slot and the ram cover bulges out.
Nice you didn't get any dead pixels, I have 2 bugs the heck out of me.

If you want poor build quality, just look at the keyboard though... I don't know if they will do anything about it but I had mine for about a month and the keys are shiny from wear already! Ill probably have to replace the keyboard by the end of the year if it keeps up.

I would order another one and return this one, except I cannot get the cheaper price any longer since the coupon expired. I am hoping they can cross-ship... Has anyone tried this?

For the bent metal shielding, is this normal? I wish I had looked more closely at the Turion version I had, that one was perfect in terms of build quality, but I returned it to Costco because it was WAY too slow. I am thinking this bent metal is not normal, it just doeesn't make sense...

it is bent and it does buldge out, but after attempting to place it correctly on a couple of times i was able to on very flush after installing a new stick of ram (upgrading). everything seems more solid on the dv2000t compared to the dv6000t IMO :D

    goodluck with the exchange!

You must not have ever had to deal with them! :D

I wouldn't trust HP's customer service as far as I could throw the building the Indian support staff is housed in.

My system has been nothing but a lemon and HP's support can't seem to do anything right. MY dv5030us was my first and will be my last HP PC purchase ever.

SauronMOS, you are right they can't do a cross ship. They said I could return and reorder, BUT I cannot have the same price as with the $200 off coupon since it's expired, so there is no exchange, only a return and reorder. I will wait 2 more weeks and just return the laptop. I am not satisfied with nor impressed with hp. The only redeeming quality is the good screen, it is very sharp and crisp.

just got mine and I didn't notice any of those problems. Maybe whoever bulit it was a little too careless. The only thing notice about my laptop is the right side of the keyboard seems to be slightly higher than the left side.

Ditto. HP Customer Service pails in comparison to what other companies offer.

Did you tell them that if you had ordered from Dell, they would issue you a NEW coupon code to replace the one that expired? They did this for me on numerous occasions. Lay it on the line - would they rather exchange the laptop or have you buy your next laptop from Dell?

I did mention that I always order from DELL without any of these issues, the CSR apologized, but said he could not make things right. I will keep it 2 more weeks because I need to use the laptop until I can buy a replacement. I am guessing in 2 weeks there should be enough discounts due to Santa Rosa release and I will be able to pick up another dv2000t for much less than now. If not I am just going to return it and get something else. It's a pity because i like the dv2000, it's a good design and the previous Turion version I had was built very well without any of these carelessness.

If the RAM modules are not seated properly, they will create pressure on the door and bulge. Make sure the RAM is inserted correctly and clipped in.

The clips are there to secure the modules.

I have modules installed on both the slots and no bulge whatsoever. My notebook is a dv2122tu.

I was wondering the same, I think it might be worth it for me to spend a few hundred or so extra and get a G1, even though I wanted to keep it under $1500.00 out the door.

i bought a custom 2000t online through costco; top of the line with 2gb of ram, bluetooth, webcam, etc.... loved the size of the computer and look of it but very disappointed with quickplay not working with vista and thought it had 128meg of dedicated vid memory on the nvidia card but turns out to only be 32meg dedicated. Anyways I returned it to costco; no questions, love them. and bought the Asus G1 from bestbuy. Absolutely love this thing, was a little more money and is quite a bit bigger but battery is better, build quality is better and video card is fantastic... best computer i have ever had!

The G1 is is a different segment compared to the dv2000t. It is a gaming notebook, weighs more, price is ~2000$, so double compared to the HP..

Part of what you say I have to dissagree with. The G1 is $1650.00 at BB and the custom DV6000t is was concidering was $1300.00, so only a $350.00 differance far from double.

I have the same problem with my keyboard. The pause, insert and delete buttons are all at funny angles. Also the 'S' key wouldn't stay attached to the keyboard. The clip was broken on it and I had to swap it for the one from another key I use less.

It's annoying because I got this laptop now so I could use it to write my dissertation. I've spoken to customer support but if I want to get it fixed I'll have to do without my computer for 8-10 days... which I just can't do at this time. I asked if they could send out a new clip for me that I could fit for myself, just for the time being, but they wouldn't do it. I'm going to have to wait until the summer and send it in.
