I am most likely purchasing a dv2000t, but I am concerned about the functionability of the Fn and Num Lock keys.
I currently own a Dell Inspiron 8600 which also has the Fn key. I set it up (in BIOS) so that Number Lock is always on. I mostly use the Fn key for typing my numbers and using the +/- keys as well as screen brightness.
My friend got a dv2000t for Christmas and he let me check it out. When engaging Number Lock, all keys that don't have a second function to them, cease to work. The keys with numbers on them do work though. This means that you must disengage the Num Lock key to be able to type normally once again. When it's on, the Fn key works with numbers as well, but what's the point if it's automatic anyway?
The plus/minus keys (located on the semi-colon and slash keys) are non-functioning. I use software that puts those keys to use, and it's not as simple as pressing shift and the equal button or the dash key up top with the other numbers.
I'm going to check out his lappy again today so I'll see if I can't figure out something, but I just wanted to check and see if anyone else had that problem (and why doesn't HP have this setting in BIOS?).

it's not a problem,DELL inspiron has this feature and dv2000t does not.AFAIK it's not possible to add this feature either.

So what I'm trying to find out is if it's just my friend's dv2000t keyboard that doesn't function properly, or if this happens on all of them.
Holding the "Fn" key and hitting one of the 15 embedded numeric keypad keys should type one of those (0 through 9, +, -, and a few others). That doesn't work on my friend's dv2000t. On his, you have to engage the Number Lock button before you're able to use the numeric keypad.
However, I did read that Fn+Shift was an option, so can anyone verify that Fn+Shift and any numeric key actually types a number (without having to engage the Number Lock button)?
thank you. -
Thats not the case. With the Num lock enabled I am able to type the rest of the keys. With the num lock on, the keys with numbers will register only numbers. If you want to type the letters then you will have to press the Fn key & the letter you want. Pressing the Fn+Shift+the key results in the caps lock being on(in the same way as holding down just the shift button and a letter key)
For the num keys to work you'll have to enable the numlock. Fn + Shift serves no function with the num lock off.
dv2000t: "NumLock"/"Fn" keys not 'function'ing properly?
