Hi everyone,
I am having problems with my HP Pavillion dv2017ea, and a new 12 Cell battery that I have purchased to replace the 6 cell that came with it. The 6 cell was defective, so I decided to buy the bigger battery to replace it.
The problem I am having comes when I try to calibrate the new battery. The HP Battery Check Utility tells me that I need to calibrate the battery by charging it to 100%, and then remove the AC adaptor to allow it to completely discharge.
I am able to charge the battery successfully, and the system runs fine whilst connected to the AC, but when I run on battery power, the system randomly shuts down, for no apparent reason. This isn't a controlled shut down either, its as if I have held down the power button in order to quickly "kill" the power.
At first I thought my new battery was defective, and so I sent it back for a replacement. But now the replacement is behaving in exactly the same manner.
I have completely charged, discharged and then re-charged the battery successfully by booting windows into safe mode (I run Vista Ultimate), but the battery still shows as needing calibrating in the utility, and the random shut downs continue to occur.
Does anybody have any advice as to how I go about diagnosing and fixing this problem?

further to this, I have now been able to fully discharge the battery when booted into Windows normally, however the battery still claims to need calibrating.
also, the Storage Capacity bar has begun to shrink already, after only a few days of use.
Can anybody offer any ideas? I would hugely appreciate it
