Hi Guys,
I currently have a DV6799ea and my girlfriend has a DV2104eu that was bought in October 2006. The bad news is the dv2104eu is starting to show it's age and is suffering from a few problems. When I bought it it was at the lower end of the scale for Duel Core processors as it has a TurionX2 TL50 1.6ghz processor.
As of the last few months the 2104eu has started killing batteries due to the heat. I have cleaned the fans and everything. and it now hits 65 when idling on wall power and 55 when on battery. Lately when under a load it's hit the 80-85 mark when plugged in, and on one exceptional case it's hit 90.
I upgraded the BIOS and the effect it's had has been quite good, in that it doesn't seem to break 80 anymore, but the fan is permenantly on. I cut a bit of the case away under the fan so the fan is exposed which has done the trick as the vents are TINY on the 2104eu so it now is idling at about 45-50 again with no fan noise.
However this is not a long term fix and I realise it needs replacing. I can't fund another Core 2 Duo machine to replace her machine right now but I was thinking of the dv6-1120sa. I don't know much about AMD stuff so I was wondering how you guys thought it compared with the dv2104eu, and my dv6799ea?
Also what about the dv6-1131ea? I might be able to strech to this but it's unlikely.
Thanks

Get the one with intel processors. Intel's processors beat AMD's one flat especially in the mobile porcessor market,

yet again sean you keep not helping the OP answer their questions....
the dv6-1131ea blows the dv2102 away.
THe turion in that chip has higher clockspeeds and more cache and should run much faster
the 1.6 ghz has only 512 kilo cache while the newer one in teh dv6 has 3 mb of cache
the dv6 has 4 gigs of ram compared to the one gigabyte in ur current laptop
the screen will be much bigger tho so that will drain you batterylife a tab more but i think from what i read about your current laptop i think it still will out last it.
Lastly the concern about heat. AMD and ATI chips tend to run hotter than their intel counterparts but I think that they still will be cooler than ur current laptop. First of all it has a much bigger chassis (16in) to cool itself with and thus should never hit 90.
hope this helps -
The thing is, I'd love to get another Core 2 Duo, but in Ireland there is such a limited range of HP machines that to get the cheapest Core 2 Duo you're going to pay 300 more unless you go for a business range one, and I don't want a business range one. It's not like in the states where they are avaliable here there and everywhere unfortunately
The only Intel that I can get around the same price is the DV6-1133EA which happens to be the T4200. Which Is just a Duel Core Pentium Rather than a Core 2 Duo, would that be a better option than the AMD or not? The DV2104eu I have is 2GB RAM as I upgraded it.
Incidentally about battery life, my DV6799ea on high performance despite the bigger screen, lasts longer than the dv2104eu on power saver with the same battery, so this really says it all about the dv2104eu! -
maybe you can check the marketplace here, they has some very good deals on very nice laptops
