I regularly use my laptop to play games and watch films (not at the same time!), but within the last 3 weeks its decided that it wants to get really hot on startup. I'm running Windows XP and when possible I put it on a desk or an "iLap Tray" - surely this should cool it down. Randomly (it would appear) that it decides to switch off.

Any ideas (i'm pretty sure the fans are clean)

    Thanks,

    Try this:
Click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click Power Options.
    Set Power Scheme to:
    Minimal Power Management

Follow this link for more power options.

DV2000 series overheating is a known issue. Look at this thread

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=218354

What you can try is to update to the latest version of the BIOS (if available) which will keep you fan running constantly. Other than that it is a design defect, I am afraid not a lot you can do.

Thanks - I've got rid of the power management and it seems to be running a bit cooler, however its a shame that you can't get it any cooler. Damn HP with their crippled BIOS and overheating!
