Basically my new dv2500t has the problem of when I want to shut it down it will shut down fine, but then after 5 seconds of being turned off it turns back on again. It is a really frustrating problem that I was wondering whether anyone knows what to do about it. What's curious is that when I tell it to hibernate it shuts down fine.

    LOL. Mine does this sometimes.

Does it do it every time or just occasionally.

If it does it just hold down the power button for around 7 seconds - that always does the trick for me!

EDIT: Oh and good question mate - I've given you some rep for it.

annoy HP about it, this is probably something that can be fixed by a BIOS upgrade.

had this issue in my desktop PC, i think a BIOS upgrade fixed it for me

    LOL.
That's the spirit! Do whatever you can to annoy a large business. I like it!

Did that holding down the power button work? Thinking about it the BIOS upgrade would probably provide a permanent solution but I can't quite fit it together in my mind how this is a BIOS issue?

some BIOSes give u the option of turning on ur PC by just pressing a key, so definitely the BIOS is capable of turning your PC on randomly if there is a bug in the program. it's the first program that is used when it turns on and it can have alot of options in it that HP dont have to use but can be there by default from the manufacturer

Yah, problem is if I hold the power button I'd get the "did not shut down properly" screen when I turn it back on. Ill probably end up bugging HP on this. Hopefully I'll be able to get some answers (though so far my one experience with their support has not gone well).
