I was planning on getting a hp dv2500 and was wondering if the non oem batteries for sale on ebay were any good? Does anyone have any experience with either 6 or 12 cell batteries?

Depends on the battery. I recently purchased a generic battery for my old R3000Z notebook and so far it seems to be working well but it depends on the individual battery. Most are manufactured for a low cost and as such tend to have higher defect rates than regular batteries. Plus there is a question mark on safety as well since you really dont know how/who manufactured it. So, make sure the seller(if you are buying from ebay) has good warranty and good feedback/history of selling suvh batteries.

Personally, I would never buy a third-party battery. I say suck it up and shell out the dough for an HP battery.

yeah, especially with all of the reports of exploding batteries, and most of the reported explosions/fires/burns are from 3rd party batteries that are poorly manufactured

That was one of the reasons I decided not to buy a Sony [customized]notebook. Replacement parts for a Sony costs a lot of money, especially in Canada where I believe the 9 cell battery is $349.99+tax! I could get an Asus Eee PC 4GB Surf edition for that price.
