Is the volume control LED supposed to light up when you increase or decrease the volume when using the + and - buttons? Mine doesn't. I just bought this laptop a few hours ago and the help docs don't address this.

    Thank you.

No, only the + and the - signs are illuminated. It would have been useful if the bars inbetween illuminated as it would give info on the volume on the laptop. But for some reason they decided it would be better off not to provide an volume level indication.

    Congrats on your new laptop.

Whew....I'm glad I don't have to return it!

Thanks, I think I'm going to like it. Only thing, which no one mentioned in all the threads I've read, is that the right and left area where you rest your hands make your wrist area sweat. Not from heat so much but because of the surface material. Is this true of all HPs!

Hmm...never noticed it in my laptop which has the same imprint finish but I guess the glossy surface/material tends to attract oils and trap heat from the hands. But do expect the left palm rest to be warmer than the right since the hard disk is located directly underneath it.

Wait, do you mean that you don't wear white gloves while handling your brand-new notebook?!

    Congrats on the purchase! :)

    LOL!

Hey, I may just do that. :p I'll figure something out. I'm really loving this notebook but it'll take some getting used to after using a PC for all my work for 20 years.

Now, can someone tell me how to get all the bloatware out of this baby? Any suggestions for shutting down things which pull on system resouces would be appreciated. If there is a link to this type of info, kindly let me know.

So far, other than the looks, Vista seems pretty similar to XP. I thought it would be a huge change. Still gotta poke around more.

Get rid of the bloatware? Toss the PC and buy a Mac.

On a serious note, click here to make a clean install of Windows Vista.

Something odd I noticed....on my dv6500t when I hit mute the speaker icon changes from blue to orange...when i unmute it, it changes back to blue. On my uncle's dv6000 series, it always stays blue.

something must be wrong with your uncle's laptop, i believe its supposed to turn orange when its muted. also, i'm not sure if you noticed but when you turn the wireless off, that light too switches from blue to orange. better tell him to get it checked or exchanged.

EDIT: same goes for the touchpad as well. if you press the button and turn it off, it goes from blue to orange.

I dunno he's using the factory build that the hp laptop came with. HP Update indicates everything is up to date but I know that program doesnt detect all updates. Not a big deal.
