    I just bought a Dell 1420: w/

    T7500
    160GB 7200 RPM
    1400x900 Screen (14")
    128 MB GeForce (discrete)
    2.0 MP WebCam +Microphone
    2GB RAM
    Bluetooth
    Intel Wireless N

All for 1170. OR should I buy cancel and buy the Dv2500T for the same price?

    So very lost...

I like the fingerprint/lightscribe but don't like being tied down to one dvdr media for the lightscribe. Plus even the most upgraded HP can't touch the components in the Dell. Want to be able to play starcraft 2 well, do school work and decent gaming. I will be using this laptop all the time.

Any recommendations as to what I should do?

Here's the config I'd get for the HP

Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
    – Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7300 (2.00 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    – 14.1" WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
    – 1GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    – 319MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
    – HP Imprint (Radiance) + Fingerprint Reader + Webcam + Microphone
    – Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 4965AGN Network Connection and Bluetooth(TM)
    – FREE Upgrade from 120GB 5400RPM to 160GB 5400RPM!!
    – LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
    – No TV Tuner w/remote control
    – 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

man i'm stuck just the way you are. Except i'm stuck between the 17" versions. This site has a comparison thing for the 15" versions. Honestly i think if you can get the same video card in both, get the HP for the style. Its more difficult in my dilemma because the HP only has the 8600m GS but the dell has the 8600m GT but even tho the dell is more powerful, i want the style of the HP.

UPDATE: oh wait i see you have 2GB of memory for the HP while 1GB for the HP. Try to get the 2GB for the HP and get that, if you can't get the Dell. Just make sure you have 2GB of RAM

Lol. If you need performance, go with the Dell. :p

I mean, the Dell doesn't look BAD, in any respects. (not to mention that the dell won't really pick up fingerprints as easily as the HP)

    definitely Dell.

performance tests have put the 1420 and the 1520 over their HP counterparts.

ok i have the 2500t its georgious and fast but it has the t7300 and the nvidia 8400 if your getting the dell for the same price but getting the t7500 and the 8600 hell go for it but its up to you do you need that power if you want to play games the dv2500 may not be for you and just wondering wh did you configure that hp with only 1 gig of ram its pretty cheap to just upgrade from then to 2 gigs but the dell is the faster pc just not as good looking :)

I mean the styling of the dv2500t just screams "hey look at me, look at me now! look at my laptop..." but the dell is sort of dormant power, like you know you have it why flont it sort of thing.

But what I do like about the HP is the fingerprint scanner + lightscribe...., HOWEVER, the dell has a 2MP camera whereas the HP only 1.3, and it has the option of the T7500 (which I purchased) for same price as HP T7300, plus it has the 7200 RPM drive.

ALso the HP has HDMI out, but it's not like the Dell is lackign Tv -out as it has S-video out, of course not as crisp as HDMI but, meh... The dell weighs a negligible .4 lbs more than the HP and may be slightly bigger, but it will last longer in terms of durability because of the magneseum alloy case whereas the HP is just nice looking plastic.

ALso, don't like the touchpad on the HP though as it feels too grainy, not smooth...don't know what the dell feels like yet just ordered it...

It's just that the lightscribe + fingerprint reader + HDMI = really pushing me to HP, but I don't know..should I cancel the dell order?

*also though numerous reports of overheating + low battery life issues on the 2500t...

You can use regular DVDRs too. I had a free lightscribe upgrade but still use regular DVD+/-Rs

if your getting a faster laptop dont cancel it for the dv2500 for the fingerprint reader and lightscribe unless your really really need them i have both and there cool and useful but not worth giving up a faster processor adn gpu for dont get me wrong this laptop flies the t7300 is plenty fast ive never seen a pc go as fast as this but it really depends on if you want those features or yud rather have the faster pc
