My friend's laptop is acting strangely when booting up.

A couple days ago, she showed me, and it lit up when turning on, but doesn't start. She needs to press the power button a second time for it to start up(consistent occurrence)

She came to me today, and tells me that it is now refusing to startup without the ac-adapter plugged in.

Is this a known issue? Any speculation as to what it might be?

side note- I assume it's the dv2500t by looking at it, but it could be a older/similar 14" model that looks the same.

Sounds like a bad connection on the Mobo. Send it to service if it's under warranty.

Try updating the BIOS first. Im sure HP tech support will instruct you to do a recovery install and upgrade the BIOS before sending it in for warranty
