I recently bought a HP dv2500t w/ vista home premium. I formatted it and reinstalled vista business instead. Now, when I tried burning iso file to dvd using nero 7/ alcohol 120% (v.6 I believe) and dvdClone2, and everytime I do, it stop at at about 1% w/ an error "recorder error". Here's the error log from alcohol 120%. Any help would be greatly appreciate, thanks in advance.

If I had to guess, the recording media you are using isn't compatible with the burner.

By that I mean, instead of using DVD-R, using DVD+R and see if that works.

The burner is a LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support, so I don't think that should be the case. However, I'll give it a try. Thanks.

I couldn't find any update driver or firmware for the drive. It seem like the drive doesn't even exist. I'm going out to buy a few DVD+R and give that a try. I'll update the result.

    Hello
I've bought recently a HP dv9695 with i suppose the same type of DVD drive, and i have the same problem.
I tried with philips dvd+RW and it works well
I tried with philips dvd+R double layer and it works
I tried with philips dvd-R and IT'S NOT GOOD, trying with ashampoo studio 7 and / or nero 8....
It seems that this drive does not work with -R..... And no update for the driver....
If someone as a solution to avoid for me to lost 100 dvd-r... ;-)
    Regards

Yup, DVD+R works just fine on this burner. Thanks for all the suggestion. I guess that'll have to do for now.

Yep. Me too. I just got a dv2500t with the lightscribe drive and I wasted a handful of DVD-Rs on it before I bought DVD+Rs. It would seem like this would be considered a major defect for a DVD+/-R drive not to like -Rs. If I had known this I would have bought the non lightscribe drive.

If I may hop into this discussion with a related question. I know very little about the CD and DVD formats when it comes to + or - .

I burned a music CD for my daughter on my HP2550. It played back fine on my computer and in the CD player in my car (year 2007). But it did not play in any of my daughter's electronic equipment. I used Windows Vista to burn the CD and did close the session.

How can I get a music CD to be compatible with all equipment, even those that are a few years old. I never had this problem when I used XP. Thanks.

I believe -/+ shouldn't be matter on lightscribe. There are certain disc that you can lightscribe. I saw Walmart sell hp lightscribe disc, so you might want to try those. As for having the same drive as me, for now you can only burn DVD+R and not DVD-R. Hope that was helpful, and correct me if I'm wrong.

Did you burn your music CD as Mp3 CD or regular Audio CD?

As far as i know, we don't have wal-marts in our country ;-) I tried those dvd+r, and as you said it didn't help. Problem is the drive doesn't even see the lightscribe side down disc. I have no idea what to do with this problem. I tried to find new software, firmware, I found nothing ;]

So, is the non-Lightscribe drive more reliable for DVD-R? I ordered the Lightscribe, since it was a free upgrade, but I'd rather be able to burn DVD-R than have the Lightscribe feature. If the non-Lightscribe drive is more compatible, I will call and try to change my order before it ships.

    Thanks for your input.

Duh, I have no idea. I just let the software do it's own thing. In the future, how should I burn it?
