The credit card remote comes as part of the systems now (even though they have it listed on the accessories page anyway, so you might wind up spending an extra $20 and getting 2 of them... not that *I* did that or anything...). Yeah, it's definitely for the quickplay and also windows media center. It doesn't do everything though. If you get the TV tuner, you get a full size remote with a bunch more buttons.
Has anyone gotten the TV tuner? Is it worth it?
-
I didnt get the tv tuner. I'm a little confused by it...are people really leaving their laptops connected to their tv and an antenna/cable to use as a dvr? There are cheaper ways to get a dvr
. Also, since it doesnt do hdtv, its only good for sdtv.
-
From the site:
This hybrid tuner delivers both high-definition(1) capable digital ATSC and traditional analog NTSC
ATSC is a digital hi-def signal, so that one does support it. I have seen older models on ebay that are analog only, but the new one should be digital.
I guess it would be useful if you travel a lot, or maybe you work by yourself and can set up the laptop and watch tv -
Really? the new one is an hdtv tuner? I didnt know that.

Has anybody ordered for the dv9500t ? Any feedback on the machine ?
Is it worth buying with x3100 if I am looking at a development machine with photoshop and other multimedia entertainment tasks and also occasional games like (NFS, GTA etc.) -
I think the 8400 is for the dv6500 and the 8600 for the dv9500. My friend received his dv6500t today. He too got the remote without opting for the tv tuner card. And he went with vista home basic, so I guess they include the small remote with every machine!
He also bought a new hp expresscard tv tuner off of ebay for around $50. So much cheaper than the $130 they're selling it for on hp.com!! Now back to waiting for the 8400s to be added...
-
I'm just itching to buy either the 14 or 15 incher. I have a dv8000z and it was hell trying to find a backpack to carry it around.
I need to do more reading. I've heard about Vista compatibility issues that made me think I should wait for SP1 oven SP2. -
-
The tv tuner on HP's CTO page says analog. If you are going to be doing even light gaming, you will have a much better experience with an nvidia card than the x3100. If you are going to play older versions of the NFS/GTA games, the x3100 will probably be enough but it still wont be as smooth as the new nvidia cards. However I'm dissapointed the 8600 wont be offered in the dv6500t series.
-
. This is a direct quote from the HP site:
-
Sorry I guess I was mistaken. I could have sworn I saw the word "Analog" on there but I dont see it now.
-
hey
once the other graphics card comes out (as you guyz metioned), will u be able to switch the x3100 with that one or is it like a permenent one? i know u cant change cards on most notebooks... but just wondering.... -
I dont think they are user swappable in this model line. You will be stuck with what you pick so choose wisely

They say the projected shipping date is June 11. With this same config last week shipping date was only 3-4 days after placement of order...any ideas? I don't wanna wait that long -
-
Rumor is "about a month", but that was 3 weeks ago. Maybe next week, but only HP knows for sure.
-
People need to stop asking when the nvidia chip will be introduced. WE DONT KNOW. We dont have any insider information. Congrats tac7c thats the exact config I was looking at. What did your total cost come out to?
-
ALright.... sorry man.... what the windows experience index and whats up with the thing heating up very soon and are there any high pitch sounds on dv6500 as others mentioned for dv2500 and some other notebooks?
-
I do not have high pitched sounds on my DV2500t, machine is quite and runs very cool.

the ones released in asia only have choice between 2 nvidia graphics cards -
Hi "docangle", "Fant", "tac7t"
Can you please tell us how much time HP is taking to deliver the new dvx500t series laptops. The estimated shipping date is about 2 weeks from the date of order. But what is the actual shipping duration that you guys have experienced ... ?
Does the "which US state" factor make any difference or is it the same all over the US mainland ? -
nafsta: windows experience was 4.3. I thought I heard some high pitched sounds when its quiet and I put my ear against the keyboard but under normal noise levels you cant hear it. I dont know about others but this thing does get quite warm on my laptop. Enough that I have to shift a little when it does.
mainak_sarcar: I think my laptop showed up about 1.5 weeks after I ordered it. It shipped on the day they said it would be built by so I would say their estimates are accurate. They are all coming from shanghai so it probably doesnt make much of a difference which state.
nafsta: from that article, it looks like this will be the discrete video options:
dv2500t: Nvidia 8400M
dv6500t: Nvidia 8400M GS or 8600M GS
dv9500t: Nvidia 8600M -
Nice!
Here's a bit of a comparison...
-
Wonder how much they'll charge for the 8600M
-
hello all,
i'm probably going to purchase a dv6500 sometime in the next few months for college. i don't game really, but i do plan on doing photography related work mainly involving photoshop. would the x3100 be adequate for photoshop, or should i look into getting dedicated graphics? sort of want to save money... -
FYI I just wanted to post an update letting you guys know there is still a high pitched annoying sound on the dv6500t. It seems to be coming right from the middle of the keyboard when there is no disk activity and I am on battery.
-
I'm a student too...how do I go for the student discount? Is it at the checkout?
-
Fant: anything that you are going to do about it?
-
wgama: not really. Its not a big enough problem to return the laptop as I really like the looks of it. Not to mention, I've heard from others its a problem with the processor as people have seen it in non-HP laptops as well. The only other option would be to get a non-c2d laptop.
-
Fant,
That is strange I am not having any high pitch noises coming from my laptop, I even tried to duplicate your situation, no disk activity and on battery. I have tried to adjust the brightness all the way up and down, and played with the power settings. -
-
no sound here either on my new 2500t
-
The Dv6500t Price just went UP about an extra $50 dollars today
how come? -
I think I saw in the news this week that the price of LCD panels was going up. That could be it. Or they could be raising the price then giving you a bigger discount, to make you feel like you got a deal.
-
-
i'm hoping the prices on x3100 configurations go down once the nvidia cards are out. -
can anyone comment on the student discount yet? can it be used along with one of the discounts offered on here like awhile back the 200 bucks off??
-
I'm excited about the dv2500t with a GeForce 8M card.
-
I'm looking at getting the 2500 with the hp quickdock. I want to connect my Dell 22" 1680x1050 monitor through the quickdock, but then I just read about the HDMI output. Will the video quality be any better if I am able to connect the monitor through the HDMI even though the monitor is not true HD. Also, will the nvidia card make any difference with the video quality, or is the intel suffecient to support the 22"?
-
-
I'm ready to buy mine!
-
As far as quality through the quickdock, if the quickdock has a DVI or HDMI output, then it should be the same, but if it only has VGA, then you'd definitely want to use DVI/HDMI instead. -

June 5th.. Sill no sign of nVidia Cards on the new laptop series. I am sure many people are wating to pounce on them as soon as the nVidia cards are available. Hope HP prepares itself for the mad rush !!
-
-
Is it June 5 in the US yet?
-
Where did people hear HP would start allowing the choice of nVidia on these laptops today? I thought it was just a rumor!
@ Inspired: Yes, it is 9:00 AM EST on June 5 for whoever was wondering. It could be whenever they decide to open up shop because I would guess HP is based in CA with Pacific time zone which is 3 hours earlier than EST so we might have to wait. This is purely speculation and I have no source to verify.
I'm still excited and can't wait to test this new computer out! -
It was an HP press release that was posted somewhere on the forums a few weeks ago. No date was given, but it did have the nvidia cards listed for certain refreshed models.
