Nice review fant! I want a 9500t asap, but the problem is they aren't released in Europe. Does anyone know the release date for Europe?
-
I second the thanks for the great review- as a potential dv9500t buyer, I found it very useful. I also second, however, BAT's concerns on the L2 cache. Seems to me that although the difference in performance between a 1.8 GHz chip and a 2.0 GHz chip isn't worth the price, the difference between a 2 MB and a 4 MB L2 cache would be.
-
From what I've read, the benefits of 4MB vs. 2MB of cache is so small (if any), that you probably won't notice. Observable performance gains are probably just due to a faster CPU clock.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/archive/index.php/t-107300.html
That link has some pretty good data regarding 4MB vs. 2MB Core 2 Duo's, albeit they're desktop Conroe's and Allendale's. I would assume the same would apply to the mobile computers as well.
-
Yah if you look at all the superpi scores for the different processors, the performance difference is minimal.
-
My dv9500t finally shipped today. Placed order on June 6. Estimated delivery is June 15. I hope it doesn't get stuck in customs!
-
what do they do to the computer in customs? do they open the box up or something?
-
It's the internal transfer of packages within a shipping company. Like your package will travel through 4-5 transit sites before it gets to you, especially if it's made in Hong Kong or something.
-
I use NOD32 it doesn't conflict with any programs like the newer Norton AV which sent my desktop into a frenzy. Seems to work fine! strange interface but otherwise nice would recommend.
My 6500T shipped out Today! -
Anything coming into the USA has to go through customs. Whether they actually do anything or not, who knows. At least it has to go through and get released before it can be delivered in the US.
-
Well my est. build date was the 20th but according to an email I just got it shipped this morning. It's in Shanghai though, but its a 9500t ill try to do a review of it if I can find my camera :/
-
Lucky...I ordered my DV6500T one the day the 8400M GS was released and my estimated ship date is also June 20th. Unfortunately, the order status still says it's in production and has not be shipped.
-
I'm glad I took a pass on the NVidia option. Can't lose a USB port (which I use all the time) to a HDMI port (which I never use).
Obviously, to each their own.
Prices seemed to have jumped a bit...glad I got mine on the cheap. -
Is this true?
I thought it was the fingerprint reader which caused a deletion of a USB port.
I want all of those USB ports, as that is the biggest gripe with my current laptop (only 2). *sigh* lol -
I was just wondering...why is the 9500t wayyyyy behind in popularity?
Is it size, price? As a laptop someone wouldn't carry around all day, it seems like a good deal.
Just wondering,
Clay -
Yeah, AFAIK, it's the fingerprint reader that uses up a port, not the nvidia graphics.
-
Hmmm...on my dv6500t (with fingerprint scanner) I have 3 USB ports. 1 on the right and 2 on the left. If you look at the pic, there is a spot with nothing there for the hdmi port. So I dont think you lose anything by choosing the nvidia option.
http://picasaweb.google.com/dshah4/HPPavillionDv6500t/photo#5067239934278045810 -
If you didn't have the reader, you would have 2 ports on the right. One in back near the power plug, and one towards the front, in between the DVD drive and the ExpressCard slot.
-
Clay, it is still a new machine, less than a month old (with 8400/8600 card). Wait few more weeks and you'll see it'll be one of the most desired 17" lappies
and they (dv6500t and dv9500t) are both staying to entry the top 15 if you just click on the link below top:
16. HP Pavilion dv6500t (Core 2 Duo processor, 15" screen, released 2007) 1.1% / 1265
17. HP Pavilion dv9500t (Core 2 Duo processor, 17" screen, released 2007) 1.0% / 1244 -

Both, too big, not cheap at all, who needs a 17inch laptop anyway, not to mention 20,1inch ones... -
Apparently very many people, judging from how many companies make them and how well they've sold.
Does anyone have any idea what's in store for HP this summer? Any major upgrades or back-to-scholl specials planned? -
Yes, but still this takes out the whole idea, laptops to be mobile.
BTW, is anyone spoted that, there is no drivers on HP website for dv6500t CTO, this is strange. -
Mobile means different things to different people. I like taking my computer out on the porch to work, and I like having the option to pack it up and bring it along with me a couple of times a year if I'm traveling but need to get work done. Don't get me wrong- if I was traveling with it for business all the time, I'd get something much smaller. As it is, though, 17" lets me enjoy great screen real estate the 95% of the time I'm using it at my desk but take it with me the other 5%.
-
If I was not travelling daily like I do, I would've bought a 17" Alienware for sure
Also, I like watching movies on my lappie and not being forced to hear the super jet noise of the desktop fans
Durmat, you said it better than I did
-
Can anyone tell me about the new DV6500T's heat and noise? Just when is just sit there without any program running and when it is under stress? Thanks a lot. Please provide the temp if you can
-
Well, both of are right, I gess, it depends of the customar's desire, I just think that 13,3 and 14,1 is the best option, the only thing that makes me buy bigger screen is the better VGA, unfortunately...
-
The Fingerprint reader does NOT use a USB port.
dv25000T has 3 USB ports...unless you get the NVidia option, in which case you get 2 ports and 1 HDMI.
I think the same holds true on other models. -
This thread is about all 3 systems, so I didn't specify (sorry). I'm thinking of the dv9500. I can speak for the 2500 or 6500.
-
i was just wondering..the tv tuner expresscard, would that only be ntsc, so if my friend orders the dv2500t with the tuner, would he be able to use it in asia?
-
Quick questions regarding 2500 and 6500 series.
I have looked at the Sony FZ series the new ones with 256mv vram
And I just don't like Vaio's too much, but the stats are good.
So will the HP 6500 series get 256mb dedicated graphics, or will they just sell with the 128mb?
I believe the older dv6000 series had the gf7400 option with 256mb dedicated ram. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Anybody has info on that?
Also, the dv2500 currently has the 64mb option, anybody think it will have the 128mb as an option as well in the near future? (like 1-2 months).
I have had 3 HP laptops as of now in the last 5-6 years, and have been extremely happy with all of them. And do think of buying a new laptop from HP. But need the graphics adapters
-
the 8400gs for dv6500t has a 256mb of dedicated + 128 aditional
and the dv2500t comes with 256mb + 64 shared
At least I think so, by checking the specs -
I believe you have that switched -- it should be 128 and 64 dedicated for the 6500 and 2500, respectively.
-
well, not according to nVidia http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8400M.html
at least I hope so -
From the HP site:
Can't get the 2500 to show up correctly for some reason... just shows the same as above. -

how does this computer look for college? I wanted to get the 9500t so i could get the better graphics card but i think its gonna be too big at 17"...Would this be a good choice? I want to play games but i dont need like a top of the line laptop i dont want to spend that kind of money. how will this hold up? The final price is $1,279.91 -
If your going to college with it, get Vista basic on it and check with your school about getting the software cheaper. I got Microsoft Enterprises and Vista Ultimate for 65 bucks from my school! Possibly get the better wireless card as well, it'll pick up a better wireless signal overall from the campus Wi-Fi network

Got My DV6500t Thurs. 6/14
WEBCAM MIC HELP! I have now been on the phone with HP tech support since Fri. Problem: the mic won't work with the webcam!!!!!!
The webcam works will take a video. Sound is working everywhere else on the laptop.
I spoke to 3 different tech sppt guys we have tried a number of different things (including them taking over the computer remotely), they can't figure out why it will make a video with the webcam but won't record the sound. If they can't fix it over the phone, I will send have to return it...this is disheartening since this is one expensive laptop for me and if it goes back who knows what will be wrong with the next one. Anyone with any ideas?
Anyone receive their 6500 and try out the webcam w/the mic yet? -
I just tried using quickplay to record a video....it recorded the video but had some random music in the background...however when i wend to media library i was able to play it with sound however the sound seemed lagged. So looks like the webcam and mic do both work fine...quickplay may just be to blame.

I would never in a million years haul around a 17in on a daily basis. My 15.4in was the perfect size to be carrying around campus.
If you want top notch graphics in a 15.4in notebook...well, HP doesn't really care. Look into an ASUS G1S-A1 .
-
For PC notebooks, 15.4" is pretty much the largest truly portable size. For Apple, their notebooks are much slimmer and lighter so even their 17" is less than an inch thick.
-
this is so truth, Apple's are very thin, unfortunately our HP's are not
-
any idea when HP is gonna roll out with LED backlight screens this year?
-
nothing so far, they do not give any info on this one, it would be great.
And anyone, any idea on dv6500t cto drivers section on HP's website? nothing so far too... -
btnh47: they have announced one of their business models as having LED however they said the laptop would be released in few months.
-
another question: now im trying to decide between the 2500t and the 6500t The 6500t is a little bit cheaper but its pretty insignificant. The 6500t also has slightly more ram on the dedicated graphics card. How important is the smaller screen size for college? Will the 6500t be too bulky or is it ideal?
Also, will the 6500t with 2.0GHz processor adn the dedicated graphics card be able to run a game like Medieval 2: Total war? -
When I went to college I had a 15.4" and found it too big. But that's just me, personally... go to a local store that sells computers and look at both sizes for yourself.
And yes, you can run Medieval 2: Total War fine with those specs. -
Rec'd my dv2500t yesterday and spent a few hours last night tidying it up: removing bloatware, etc. Norton was the first thing to go, replaced with Nod32.
One dead pixel, but I guess I'll learn to live with it. Overall I'm very happy so far.
Can I safely remove the "HP advisor"? It seems to me that this is just a fancy overlay for Windows Update, with added bloatware on top of that.
Also, can anyone point me to a good utility to monitor the CPU temperature? The thing didn't seem overly hot, but I'd still like to keep an eye on things.
Thanks in advance. -
Yeah, the advisor can be safely uninstalled. Other than Quickplay, Quicklaunch buttons, drivers & the wireless manager, the rest of the preinstalled software can be removed and are not essential for the laptop to function.
Try Core Temp to read the CPU temperatures...

I'm about to order 6500t with 8400M GS. Could any one help to answer these questions?
For the 8400M GS option, how long does the battery last for regular use? (not gaming, just like watching divx movie on hard drive)
thanks for help
-
Thanks, but this program did not work for me. It set off a loop of "error driver not loading" (or something messages) that I felt lucky to be able to stop short of a reboot.
Any other suggestions for a good CPU temp monitor? A nice sidebar gadget would be cool.
