FYI, my dv6500t came with bios version F0.5 and the HP Update doesnt tell you but there is an updated F0.8A bios posted on the HP website. I downloaded and installed it with no problems. Just makes me wonder what HP Update is actually doing.

I just upgraded my 2500 because I couldn't determine which BIOS it had (it said F0.A in the registry, no 5 or 8), and I updated it and the release date on both drivers (the one pre-installed and the one I installed) were the same, so mine came with the F0.8A, I believe.

This is question for every one that owns a dv9500t.

I purchased a dv9500t two weeks ago and recieved it today at 10:30 am. And sent it at back at 11:15 due the fact that the label on the screen said "dv9000". I called hp and they said that they have'nt updated the computer body to reflect the model. Which sounded like a load dung, so I sent it back.

Has this happen to anyone? Was it labeled Dv9500t or dv9000

Also, when I pull the computer out of the box plugged it in and turned it on, the screen was extremely dim. I could not see anything, it almost completely black. The qiuck play buttons did not work. So to make long story short. I am truly unhappy with my first hp laptop. But I'll give then a second chance.

Yes they are right the model name on the laptop screen still would say dv9000. On my dv6500t it says dv6000. I think they consider the dv6500 as part of the dv6xxx series. Thats odd about the dim screen and the quickplay buttons not working. Were you plugged in (for the brightness problem) and did you wait for vista to load (for the quickplay buttons)?

The computer was plugged in. But I didnt get a chance to load vista because the screen was useless. I did notice there were two function buttons on the number bottons at the top of the keyboard. They look like they might control screen brightness but they did not work.

Sounds like something was wrong with your backlight in which case its a good thing you returned it. But the quickplay buttons only work after vista is loaded. Actually come to think of it the brightness buttons only work after vista is loaded.

So, after lusting after the 8510p for so long, I finally broke down, took a major left and ordered the dv9500t. Now I have to order a new laptop bag to carry it.

Has anyone had any success with the Ogio backpacks and the dv9000 series? I'm looking at the Politan model which is supposed to fit 17" models. I've had the Ogio Metroid for about a year now and I'm VERY happy with it but it will not fit anything larger than a 15.4".

I'm interested in this machine but would like to hear from you whether or not is has any noise issues and how hot it gets. I won't be doing any gaming so I will get it config with the low graphics.
Anyone willing to respond, it would be greatly appreciated!!!

This will be my first lappy and I would like to make a good buy....Thank You!!

I have an Ogio backpack. Very high quality materials and construction, best I've seen in any OTS notebook bag. Better than any targus anything IMO.

Mine fits my iBook G4 12" or my 15" hp nc6000 just fine. I haven't tried to see if my dv9500t will fit in there yet...

Edit: Tried putting the dv9500t in and it doesn't fit. I could force it in there, and just baaaaarely close the zipper, but not something I would want to do every day. Clearly not designed with 17" notebooks in mind. That said, I don't know which model of Ogio backpack mine is, but it's apparently not a 17" one.

Does the dv6500t come with an HDMI port or not? I've seen pictures online with the HDMI port, but I've talked to 2 HP reps who said that the HDMI port isn't available on the dv6500t.

    Chat log:

Me: "Does the dv6500t come with a HDMI port if I add the NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS?"
Agent (Abigail): "Thank you for contacting the HP Home & Home Office Store chat."
Agent (Abigail): "Hi. My name is Abigail."
Agent (Abigail): "How are you doing today?"
    Me: "I'm fine."
    Agent (Abigail): "Great,"
Agent (Abigail): "I will surely assist you with this."
    Me: "Thank you"
Agent (Abigail): "Please hold while I look for the information you requested."
Agent (Abigail): "I am still researching your question. I would appreciate your patience if you could stay online, while I continue to research this question."
Agent (Abigail): "Thank you for your patience."
Agent (Abigail): "It would just take a few minutes."
Agent (Abigail): "When are you looking to purchase this notebook?"
Me: "I need it by Mid-August"
    Agent (Abigail): "All right."
Agent (Abigail): "I would suggest you to place the order right away in order to avail of the promotions offered along with this notebook right now."
Me: "Ok. How accurate is the ship date on the website? Does the dv6500t come with HDMI or not?"
Agent (Abigail): "I am extremely sorry however this notebook does not come with an HDMI port. However if you play any 3D games on this notebook they shall run well because of the 383MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS."
Me: "Thank you for the help."

I want to be sure before I make my purchase and any help would be appreciated.

The information the HP customer service reps use to answer questions is usually over a month old. If you get the Nvidia graphics option, it comes with an HDMI port. If you choose the intel graphics, you do not get an HDMI port.

Hey all, I just purchased an HP dv6500t. I was debating between the HP and the new Dell latitude 1520's. At the end of the day I like the HP better, here are the specs:

    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache)
    15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
    2GB DDR2(2 Dimm)
    383MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
HP Imprint Finish (Radiance) + Webcam + Microphone
    160GB 5400RPM HDD

Hi, I just caught this website while doing some research on the HP laptop DV6565ca.

If you've noticed the product name, you'd notice.. yea I'm Canadian. Anyways, HP's Canada site does not offer the DV6500ts at all atm. The closest I've got is from a store called Staples. You can see the laptop's description here ( http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=83,84,85,4471&webid=706944&affixedcode=WW).

    It comes with..

    # 1.66GHz Intel® Core ™ 2 Duo processor T5450 (2MB L2 cache, 667MHz FSB)
    # 2GB DDR2 SDRAM
    # 160GB 5400RPM
    # NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS with up to 895MB total graphics memory with 128MB dedicated

I noticed most of you opted for the 1.8 and 2.0 GHz versions. Now I plan to do some light gaming on this baby every now and then, is 1.66 Ghz sufficient? Is there a huge difference between 1.66 Ghz and 2.0 Ghz? Also, some people are saying this processor does not come with Intel VT, does this mean I can't run VM Ware? That is weird because Pentium III's at my school can run vmware.

Lastly, is this at all a good deal? Some help is greatly appreciated.

The T5450 should be fine since most games are going to be limited by the graphics card in the first place. For typical use the difference in the cpu speed is not noticable, you might notice the difference between a 1.66 & 2.0GHz in benchmarks but for everyday use the difference will not be noticable.

Vmware shouldnt have any problems running on that cpu, the lack of VT support means that the cpu lacks the extra hardware support for virtualization. It would be better to have VT if you want to run vmware but is not a requirement. Read this article for more info about VT...

I have another question for DV6500T owners. I assume most of you are using the Vista that came with the machine. Any problems at all? What is your battery life like with and without Aero? More importantly, how many hours am I expecting to get out of a 6 cell battery with Aero?

Also, how many of you are running a DV6500 on XP/XP-64?

    Thx.

Just be glad that you don't live in Europe then, where you might pay $300 (or more) sales tax on that $1400 notebook. (Not that there's anything wrong with european countries, just sayin there's loads of taxes there!)

Don't even ask about the sales tax there on buying a car!

I now have a 2nd DV6500T, this one with the 8400M GS and 160 gig hard drive. I wiped it clean installing XP and Vista. The Forceware drivers work in XP, I'm able to play UT2K4, Halo, FarCry, Doom3, and Tribes2 easily.
For the Vista install, I used the Nvidia video drivers in the \SWSetup folder. I only have one yellow question mark in the device manager which is for Other Devices, still haven't figured out what it is. In XP the device manager is clean.

I'm thinking it's the HDMI port, because on my DV6500T with integrated graphics, the device manager is clean. On properties for Other Devices, it mentions something about the ICH8M, which is the Sata controller. I installed the Sata drivers again just to be sure, but the yellow question mark is still there. I'm not going to worry about it. Everything else works, sound, video, and the WEI score is 3.1.

Here is what I see on my dv6500t. This is using the factory build. Note I do not have the nvidia card with hdmi port. But compare yours to see if you are missing any of these. Note I also have an external USB mouse plugged in so that may show up in there.

FYI, Windows Media Player (WMP) seems to play dvds better than quickplay does. With quickplay, i can see interlacing artifacts however using windows media player, I do not. As such, I would not recommend quickplay for playing dvds.

i agree fant, wmp is much better, and i also use vlc media player.

the yellow question mark seems to be the "Intel(R) ICH8M LPC Interface Controller - 2", i got that from properties. since robvia said installing the sata drivers doesn't seem to get rid of it, i just right clicked and disabled it. everything still running fine :)

... for now. That's the intel 'Low Pin Count' interface controller. Disabling it will cause problems when you add devices to your system, particularly if you use the ExpressCard or mini-pci slot.

These things are there for a reason, what gave you the idea that disabling chipset components willy-nilly would be a good idea?

    I have a question.

The 2500 with the NVDIA card, will that allow me to play most of the games on the market right now (in low settings of course).

The card has 64mb dedicated memory, but also draws memory from RAM.

If a game has 128MB minimum video requirement will it work on the dv 2500? (Considering 8400 gs card has 64mb dedicated, and will borrow additional 64 mb from the RAM. Does it work like that? )

I am torn between the Sony FZ, and the HP Dv2500, they are very similar in weight, I prefer the smaller size of (14.1") of HP to the larger size of Sony.

I looked at the Dell 1420, but it seems to be a bit more heavier 6lb, and thicker.

    Any input will be appreciated.

Yes, it will work. But the discreet memory area will be much faster than the memory area that's pulled from system RAM, so depending on the game, the performance may or may not be that great.

I have been looking all over the place for the new DV6500 models in Canada and like you have only come across the DV6565CA from Staples (and a scary DV6568SE model at Future Shop). The HP Canada site is unfortunately touting it's latest models as the DV6300 series...sigh.

Have you had any luck finding the DV6575CA or the DV6585CA models from a Canadian company? Might be a little bit of overkill for what I need but I am curious to compare the price difference.

    Thanks.

I thought of the idea myself thank you very much. i don't use ExpressCard or mini-pci slot, so in the future if I ever use them, of if I add something and it doesn't seem to work, I'll enable it again!!!!

Verdict on the dv2500t: I liked it a lot for the day and a half it worked before it died on me. Faulty motherboard, I suspect.

Hopefully the replacement HP's sending me this week fares better, because I was pretty happy with it for those 36 or so hours.

I got my dv2500t seems about same build quality as my current dv2000t. I did notice that the sticker on the LCD still says dv2000. LOL

The right trackpad button is higher than left and right side of keyboard has some flex. I haven't had the time to reformat and reinstall yet...

Will update with more as I replace my dv2000t with this dv2500t.

    :)

I just ordered a dv9500t from HP. I go in bestbuy sometimes to play on the ones they have and it really pisses my off that they don't know their own passwords to login to the damn things to let customers play on them. Seriously guys.
