I just received my dv2700t today, and I'm mostly satisfied with it. The fan, however, is significantly louder than I think it should be, and never shuts off. It does get faster/louder when I stress the machine.

Any idea what the problem might be? Or IS IT a problem? When idling, it is plenty more than just audible.

I have upgraded to the latest bios (F.2B), but there are no options in the bios to change anything but the time and date.

Any sort of help would be appreciated here.

I have upgraded to the latest bios F.2B, put my power settings on Power Saver, turned off any effects in Vista that might tax my processor or GPU. My processor is undervolted at 0.95 across the board, and my temperatures seem normal (see attached).

Yet, the fan is always running even when idling, and at higher than the lowest speed (which I hear briefly during bootup). The air coming out of the vent is not hot; the laptop itself is barely warm.

Go to the HP drivers page and roll back to F.25

The F.2x (A,B) series BIOS is designed to keep the fan running on the lowest settings 24/7.

Thanks Flipfire, but I've tried rolling back the bios - to both F.21 and F.25, and neither worked.

I don't mind when the fan is on the lowest speed, but it's only on the lowest speed for about 2 seconds when the machine boots up. Even with F.2A and F.2B, the fan is constantly running on what sounds like a mid-level speed.

Is this just a faulty fan/machine? If it is, I might rather return it (I'm within the 21 day period) than take my risks with HP repair.

You can turn the power scheme to "power saver" when not doing anything intensive. That should minimize fan usage.

i just noticed my fan was always running high as well. i noticed my cpu usage was at 50% when i had nothing open/running. i opened up my task manager to see what was running at 50% and it was "mobsync.exe" i ended the task to that file and my fan went down to low speed. any ideas on this file? i am running on firefox.

Ah that explains a LOT. I hate hearing the fan so I almost always run in power saver but I don't understand why they must make them run 24/7... I mean my CPU is just a few degrees above ambient temperatures... 95F is very good by any standard.. -_- hard drive is 130F but I can't fix it.

Upgrading to F2A bios made the internal USB devices work better but now im contemplating on a downgrade but even with F25 I think it was only fanless for like the first 5 minutes before it would kick in the fan.

I wonder if this has to do with the report from Nvidia regarding their GPUs http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/02/nvidia-says-significant-quantities-of-laptop-gpus-are-defectiv/ make chips run cool = less returns  at the cost of some of my sanity I guess.
