Hello,
Just recently, within a week or so, my dv2700t has been reaching temperatures higher than usual. Sitting at a relatively idle state as I type this post, RMClock is detecting the core temperatures at around 55C. Usually, it sits between 35-40C and possibly higher if I'm watching a video clip or something a little more taxing.
One area of concern is the hard drive, I'm not able to get a reading of its temperature with any software I use(everest, hdd tune, hdd health, speed fan, etc.) and SMART information is not also displayed. The bottom left palm rest gets really warm, and I know this is normal when under load, but it is warm even now.
So I think it could be either of two problems, faulty hard drive or poor connection between heatsink and cpu. Anyways, I came on here looking for your advice and what you think the problem could be.
-
55 degrees C isn't too bad; the dv 2000t series is known for its warm left palm rest so dont worry about it. If you want to obtain your hd temp, try running your monitor app as an administrator.
-
Running the programs as administrator didn't change anything, I still can't see the HD temperatures. Sure, 55C isn't that bad, but now my cores are at 62C idle... with the fans running. Usually I would get to 62C under load with my undervolts, now it sits at 62C at idle and easily reaches 75-80C under load. I've attached an image of a screen shot of RMClock showing this, my CPU is pretty much idle and reaching 62C, which is pretty unusual.

you might have dust build up in the vents. try cleaning those out and you should be fine.

How would I go about doing that? Do I have to open up the notebook or just use some compressed air and spray into the notebook? Would that really cause the temperatures to increase 15C?
-
Compressed air spray does work. I've had my HP for over 5 years now and still in good working condition. My temps are way higher than yours around 70C-90C just idling (but then again it's a Pentium 4 laptop). The spray won't decrease the temperature by 15 C (I'm not sure if anything will), but probably by a few degrees (at best). Or you could trying finding software to moderate the temps.
If you're really want to decrease you laptop temps, I'd recommend getting a fan cooler. It really does make a difference with the air circulation from the fan. -
I am having the same problem too. I used to have temperature readings at around 25-30 C when the notebook sat idle. Now, I see the temps. at around 40 C or higher. I can't figure out why this is happening. I contacted HP tech support and they really don't help much. They just say reset the BIOS and reintall the power management. I disabled all the useless processes from running in the background just to take the load off the processor, but the temp stays around there.

Nope, I had a 8400M though.. I knew something was up. Just got it back from warranty repairs and they replaced the motherboard. All is good now, unless Nvidia hasn't found a way to fix the problem and I received another faulty chip. Anyone know if Nvidia has fixed these GPUs yet? Or have released any new information? I haven't seen anything on any sites as of recent.
I still can't get HD temp readings though, I think it might just be a problem with the fujitsu drive? I swapped it out with a WD and I could get temps from that. However, when I swapped back the original before I sent it off, I couldn't get anything. -
Have you tried speedfan for getting the hd temps? Funny, my laptop's in for a motherboard replacement as well (8400 gs). Did you have a blank screen upon hitting the power button and a orange wireless light? (indicating no boot up...)
-
Yeah I tried speedfan, hwmonitor, everest, and several others I found through a google search... nothing showed up. Nope mine booted up fine, but I just checked idle temps of the 8400 before the initial repair and it was sitting at around 75-80C, which should be its load temp.
Although I said my notebook was fine after the 2nd repair(mobo replacement) I don't think it is. Still hitting 105C GPU load and ~80C CPU load. Called them up again and finally got a native english speaking person and I guess I'm sending it in again. He also plays games, so he was fully aware certain games(CS Source) shouldn't be pushing it to 105C. If this 3rd repair doesn't fix the issue, is there a certain way I should go about asking for a replacement? -
I used to have a dv2500t and had to get that replaced because I spilt water on my keyboard. I had to send it in three times because it kept coming back scratched and the buttons didn't work on my touchpad. So, I think that they will replace it for you after the 3rd repair. I had no problems getting mine replaced. HP even upgraded everything I had. They upgraded the RAM, processor speed, and some other things which I didn't have on my dv2500t.
By any chance, have you tried installing Windows XP on your notebook? I did that and it worked, but I put back Vista. Thats when I started noticing the temperature difference. -
Good to know they'll possibly replace it after this 3rd attempt.
Nope, I haven't tried installing XP; I have a hard time believing it'll drop my load temps by ~20C to a reasonable ~60C CPU and ~85C GPU... -
Actually, I meant that XP ran on my notebook, not that the temperatures dropped. I just started noticing the temperature increase after I installed Vista again.
-
After the third repair, if your problem isn't fixed. kindly as for a replacement, because if you get demanding, that gets you nowhere. You can read the horror stories on these forums, but in the end of the ordeal, most people got their laptops replaced.
-
Nice to know another person also thinks they'll replace after the 3rd repair. I've read a few "horror" stories and luckily I haven't experienced any damaged casings thus far. I guess it just depends where you send it off to. I know not to "demand" for a replacement and I don't think I'm a person to "demand" anything from anyone, anyways.
Thanks for the replies guys, it's reassuring... I'll try to keep the community updated as this progresses.
