You'll have to contact HP about it, since backup shares (that contain Windows copies) should not be shared.

What exactly is the problem? Perhaps we can help? Please tell us, and exactly what your notebook is (processor, RAM, etc) as we might be able to help you.

    thanks greg.
    here's my spec.
    C2D T5750 2 GHz
    2GB RAM
    128MB Nvidia 8400m GS
    intel PRO3945ABG

after installing the vista, it hangs at " completing installation"
so I waited 30 mins, still hangs there...so I reboot by turning off...
now it hangs where " starting...."

    thanks

Try reinstalling the OS, and let the computer sit through the night. If it is still hanging, then something is wrong.

Vista sometimes takes longer to install.

Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you see it, you do not have 4GB of RAM...Vista sometimes hangs when a PC has 4GB installed.
